Having had a chance to watch and rewatch the 1895 final and the latest Fev game at LSV, and a couple of others that were televised, we have strike players and a huge mobile pack, that causes problems all over the field. That said we also have a couple of real duel threats that are a constant source of breaks and points.
Ipape - O’Donnell
These two are in each other’s pocket at every chance and can both break tackles and offload to the other at any moment. I was really happy to see the O’Donnell signing and a few questioned why, I hope we can all now see how strong, mobile and willing he is, every second of the game, in attack and defence. Ipape is outstanding but with O’Donnell in his corner, we have the best duo threat in the Championship.

Aekins - Ferguson
Aekins is a constant threat and now showing his quality in attack, defence and under the high balls. But now with Ferguson in the mix, we have another duo who know when to follow each other for the offloads, and Aekins knows where and when Ferguson will be ready for the pass into space.

Well done to all the team but also well done to Lam, Chester, Derek (and all the coaching staff). No chicken being counted yet, but right now, I don’t see Fev or anyone else beating us 9 times out of 10.

Agree about your first two, Vanners. Really impressed with the the way O'Donnell takes the ball into contact, stays on his feet and then, like an outsize Phil "Rubber Man" Ford, wriggles free enough to offload whilst tying up two or three of the oppos.

If his offload goes to Ipape within sniffing distance of the line, Snake Hips will do the rest (usually between or close to the uprights).

Aekins had already proven himself to be a good attacking FB long before Fergy arrived. The latter has the discipline (when the oppo line is in sight) to hug his touchline when play gets sucked inside - and the whole team know where to find him.

You are right, it has not taken Ferguson to see the best of Aekins, he has shined ever since the dark day at the Fev mud pit. I have noticed though that he has quickly learned to sniff around a Ferguson drive, knowing that he will break tackles and be looking for the offload.
It’s a long time since I got this excited about our team, and no longer a young guy, but I find myself laughing and cheering at so many points in a game, ball in hand or on defence.
