NRL to Super League - Players have normally transferred for a variety of reasons:
1. Young and unable to secure a place in the NRL
2. Old and out of favour
3. Trouble with the law (or avoiding sex scandals - including sex with animals)
Lammy snr is giving a sales pitch to young talented players - come to Leigh, I will turn you into an NRL starting player - and you can go back to the NRL and earn the big bucks. As a Leigh fan this obviously a difficult angle to take - that Leigh and SL are feeder clubs for the NRL. It is almost an unregulated dual reg situation. Leigh will polish your players and send them back when they are ready.
British players are being snaffled by NRL, with Lewis Dodd already lined up, and rumours of Mikey Lewis, Matty Nicholson, and Junior Nsemba being lined up. Wigan and St Helens are unable to ward off all approaches, with Welsby being an example of long marquee contracts.
It looks shrewd on the part of Lam and Chezzy to embrace the changing markets - and throw the doors open to talented youth. David Armstrong would have been a good example of this policy, but circumstances dictated that he got a chance to shine in the NRL. There are interesting times ahead.
