Re: vs Saints : Tue Feb 28, 2012 3:28 am
i would like to see the combination that destroyed everyone but wigan last season with grix at fb brown and brough at half back. yes eden has done well in the games his played but he is for the future. grix is no where near a 6 rubbish kicking game passing isnt the best and is alot better coming into the line on the second phase.

also kevin brown isnt a 13 its like moving thorman to fullback.

we cant let saints get a fast start as they will not take the foot off the gas this week. not taking anything away from the catalan effort but saints fell asleep and didnt finish the game off but was still a very good performance from catalan.

one thing that saints do look weak in this season is defence conceding alot of points hopefully we can exploit that and can keep our good defence and we can get a good win

Totally and absolutely disagree with your opening points..

Kev looks far happier at LF. His play, IMHO, is far better. Because he hasn't got the responsibility to open up defences as much, it gives him more time to concentrate on the captain's role.

Grixy look sharp, is always probing, and has a very good kicking game. It must take a huge load off Broughy's shoulders knowing that there is another quality kicker to share the load. OK, his kicking isn't perfect yet, but no-one has mentioned Brough's penalty on Sunday which didn't find touch.

As I've said earlier, if Grix improves at the rate he did last year, we shall have the best half back combination in the league.

Thought Grix was a star last year and think he's going well in his new role this year, and I think he's only going to get better as the season goes on. As for K Brown he's a quality player and I think he's going bring a lot of class to his new role once he gets fully up to speed. These lads ooze quality and if they can keep improving and playing with consistancy along with the likes of Broughy, Robbo, Leroy, Gerry, Lunty, Luke, Larne etc, then we could be in for a very exciting season of fast flowing rugby.

Bring on the Saints.

My view is that the changes have greatly strengthened our attack while slightly weakening our defence (on top form not late season defence from last year). KB is a creative loose forward as opposed to an extra prop so that is not surprising.

Changes we had to make I believe as the previous way of playing was effective but "just falling short". Lets be winners not contenders

Kev says he's enjoying playing the LF role and Grix seems to be getting better at 6, i'd keep it how it was for 1st 3 games cos we looked dangerous with ball in hand, we need to stop Saints getting a role on early - Gaskell and Lomax could kill us if we're not on the ball.
Think it will be a tight one myself and i will be well chuffed if we pick up the 2 this week.

I would not go that far as Brown is doing well in attack and once things settle down i can see us having a superb attack which will have enough options to break down any defence.

Saying that Brown neeeds to work on his individual defence and NB needs to work out a defensive system that will be more effective.

Neither Brown or Grix are the strongest defensively. With Brough and Robinson also being targetted regularly the rest of the pack and centres will need to be very strong defensively to compensate.

Brown got pinged for 3 high tackles against widnes, was significantly to be blamed for Wires first try after being swatted by westwood and made a poor attempt to stop Kaufisi's try on staurday ( although i doubt even LOD would have stopped him from five yards).

Brown may need to put on a stone over the season to give him a higher level of physicality for his defence. if he does i could see him becoming another Sean O'Loughlin.

Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good
-
sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league
-
Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate
-
the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever
-
Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go
-
Saint94..Every team is in your feckin shadow, we all know

Dominate saints in the pack and you'll get the win I reckon. You lot are the best team we have played this season by a long way. You totally dominated us up front. As soon as Catalans starting kicking well against saints they couldn't get back up field at times when Graham used to do it. They were getting field position through pens and clean breaks. We had 1 clean break against you guys so that shouldn't be a problem. Brough should kick them to death and allow your defense to meet their pack at the right end of the field.

What will your pack look like for this game?

crabtree, mason and patrick available for the pack

No offence to Saints at all & the terrible performance at the Stoop notwithstanding, I would honestly be disappointed if we didn't win at the Galpharm this Sunday. Not saying it will be easy, but are we taking ourselves seriously as genuine contenders this season or not? If we are, then these are the games we must win.
