As usual the government have made a right pig's ear of things. The East Riding of Yorkshire Unitary Authority does not include Hull (which has its own UA). However the ceremonial county of The East Riding of Yorkshire does include HUll.
I guess the road signs refer to the UA, just as we have welcome to Kirklees signs.
Whatever, they all talk funny and are probably only historically in Yorkshire because proper Yorkshire folk conquered them many years ago. When we realised our mistake we tried to get rid of them, hence the formation of Humberside. However, they liked the kudos of being associated with Yorkshire so we sold them a franchise for eleventy-hundred squillion quid.
