Genuine grounds for optimism?? : Fri Oct 18, 2019 8:22 pm
Some good signings - should we be optimistic?

Maybe one more signing - who knows?

I’m always optimistic about the start of a season.
If we can get bodies on the field each week and the same ones consistently we will not be as bad as last year.
- who will be worse?

I note that Toronto have not yet announced any signings.

As I've said before a top quality half (still hopeful on Sezer) & I would be happy.

3 good signings. Big prop and physical second rower were what we needed

Very optimistic- kids will have benefited from their extra games last season.

A creative half would complete my wish list.

You don't think Gaskell might be that half behind this new Super pack then, If our forwards manage to get any go forward all of our halves might be a different proposition.

I do. Think another creative half will compliment Gaskell. And then we can use Oliver and Dom ( both of whom I rate) as and when necessary.

A bit like our young props and young wingers , hoping the additions and return to fitness of more senior players, means our youngsters are bloodied appropriately, rather than being needs must.

I’m not expecting a top 5 finish next season- but I’m not expecting to finish in the bottom three either. Or to be in a position of uncertainty towards the end of the season..... all dependant on our injury list.

We were 4 wins off cas, take into account, three 1 point losses and a golden point defeat, all with a depleted inexperienced squad, and it all could of ended different.
With the additions what's to say we can't be successful, apart from saints, all the other teams are fairly evenly matched.

Tend to agree with this, the league was so tight outside of Saints last season it is genuinely hard to predict - A bit of luck with injuries and most teams could push to stake a claim for that top 5.

Negatives

Leroy = No part in preseason. Had yet another op and wont be fit for the start of the season
Jerry = On International duty and then having an op. Will not take much part in preseason
Matagi = Wont be back until xmas
Gavet = Wont be here until xmas
Edwards = Wont be here until xmas
Turner = Still injured, not sure when hes back training
Uate = Not coming back until xmas apparently.

Positives

Have made 3 good signings so far
All youngsters will have had another pre season and should be better

My main worry is the lack of Senior players in the first 2 months of preseason and how fit the overseas boys will be all coming back that late. Who particularly are the young backs meant to learn off?

Shout out to Seb and Taai who have been in pre season since day 1.
