The burning question : Fri Dec 13, 2019 2:05 pm
Just been reading the article on Sky sports about the Opta stats, needless to say the Giants finished bottom of most categories mentioned, Macintosh got a mention as having done ok but in some categories we were woeful which will be no surprise to anyone on here, Offloading particularly was abysmal and we were bottom club by quite some margin. As we all know we suffered more than most injury wise but hopefully we shall be more fortunate this season and all things being equall it wasn't the young players who were the big disappointment . The last couple of seasons have been the worst i have watched with regards the pack, even allowing for injuries ( same as every other club ) they were just not up to the job for whatever reason neither in go forward or defence. If your halves are having to put bombs up from their own half, they are just passes to the full back, and if you are pushed back to your own 25 on virtually every sett you end up trying to field bombs on your own line ( tha'ts if they haven't scored ).
None of this is news to people on here or people who watch the game in general, The Giants have a reputation for this plodding kind of play, you almost have to think it's in their DNA and yet every now and then they show what they are capable of and come up with a performance to be proud of, Sadly they are few and far between but it doesn't have to be that way. Nathan Brown showed the way, he produced a style that was good to watch and also got results so it can be done and i believe that the bonus would be better crowds.
So my question is can things be changed, we have some new players once again and some of them should bring some desperately needed beef to the pack, Can they get us out of the pedestrian style of football that we adopt for most games, We have the Halves to compete with anyone now and they just need to be given a chance to play off the front foot a bit instead of always being under the pump that will also give our youngsters a chance to shine a bit ( I don't remember them letting us down much last season ),
So the ball is in Mr Woolfords court as far as i'm concerned, He's not had much chance so far but all that should be changing for this season, whether he is up to it or not remains to be seen. I have renewed my ticket again on the strength of the new signings (by and large) Though i am still praying that we may somehow get Gigot as a replacement for Cudjo ( forlorn hope i'm sure, So bring it on, only 6 weeks or so.
