It was a bit of a disaster really. Did what I have done 10+ times, train from Victoria to Clapham Junction. Then pick up the train to Reading via Twickenham on platform 5 or 6. Of course platforms 5 and 6 were closed, and it was advised we seek platform 11 to get to Richmond, which was the closest alternative it would appear. We got to platform 11, and it appeared this was an hourly service and we had just missed out. At this point, I heard an announcement that a Reading train was leaving platform 9. There was no advertisement of this at all and I watched it pull off, with no more scheduled
I then phoned Penguin who is a bit of a whizz when it comes to transport in London and he advised me to pick up a bus service. I couldn't find the bus stop that was required so had to give this idea up. Then found a replacement bus service to Barnes so gave that a go and got off at Putney. We planned to get a taxi to the ground from here. Little did I know that Putney is seemingly a taxi free zone and I only saw 1 taxi in 25 minutes. By now it was 3pm and normally I would have given up and gone to one of the fine Young's houses in Putney, but I had to meet my parents to collect my bag which they had taken up in the car. Finally we managed to hail one and I bet he was already counting his money when I announced I wanted to go to Twickenham (£24, might not sound much but a lot to me and my associate
)
Eventually arrived at the ground with 17 minutes of the first half left. Went to the wrong ticket office to collect tickets and eventually got in and took a seat in the East Stand somewhere as I couldn't be bothered to walk around to the Lexus. Gasping, I couldn't wait for half time to get a refreshment and the bar was packed
So yeah, pay up Windy
