Huddersfield v Quins Preview : Sun Mar 22, 2009 2:16 pm
Quins prepare to face the Giants for the first of two encounters in a fortnight today as they travel to The Galpharm for precious Super League points.
The Giants or “Fartown” have started the season well under new coach Nathan Brown picking up three wins and two defeats in the opening five games. Giants’ wins came against Catalans Dragons, Bradford Bulls and most recently Castleford Tigers in front of Sky cameras last weekend, with the two defeats coming to Hull FC and Saints. Nathan Brown recruited well over the winter by bringing in Brett Hodgson and Simon Finnigan to name two. Its quite easy to point out the Giants danger men in my opinion as QRL will have to keep Brett Hodgson, Luke Robinson and Kevin Brown quite to have any hope of winning this encounter.
Team news for The Giants is: prop Eorl Crabtree has recovered from a hamstring injury to be named in the nineteen man squad, as has Simon Finningan who has struggled with a knee injury. Bad news however is that David Faiumu, Martin Aspinwall and Andy Raleigh all miss out through injury.
Onto The Quins now. Well, what can be said about last week’s humiliation of Warrington that hasn’t already been mentioned? Danny Orr has started ‘09 fantastically and had a cracking game against Wire with a twenty-four point haul, Tony Clubb’s tackle, Luke Gale’s two tries etc etc. But onto more pressing matters and the prospect of Huddersfield. The best news is that captain Rob Purdham is back from injury but we are missing Gareth Haggerty and Jon Wells through injury meaning a re-jig to the team. Matt Gardner has been called into the nineteen for the first time and may start thanks to Wellsy’s injury.
Haven’t we seen you before?
There are a few connections between the sides today with no fewer then four players possibly playing against there old clubs in: Darrell Griffin, Joe Walsh, Jonny Grayson & Matt Gardner.
Bat Fastard’s Prediction: Hudds 20-24 Quins
