I remember going up and watching us give them their first point in a season where they'd lost 10 or 11 in a row from the start.

I think:
On the basis of the evidence presented today you would be right to think we are a bad team (guilty as charged...). But last weekend we showed some evidence to prove we are not a bad team and next weekend we'll show you some more.

That's was the most sensible way I could think to interpret it. It doesn't sound to me like the whole statement wasn't reported. I'm sure it made sense in the context it was delivered.
