QRL v Huddersfield Preview : Thu Apr 02, 2009 12:12 pm
Quins RL start there Challenge Cup journey on Saturday just 10 miles from Wembley Stadium, a place where many are hoping Quins will be walking out at come August.
But before we get carried away, there is a long, long way to go before Quins fans can even begin to dream about a Wembley day-out, starting with a very tough test against a strong (no pun intended) Huddersfield Giants team. Facing the Giants at the Galpharm has become a difficult task for QRL/Broncos as the Giants have seemed to gain an upper-hand when playing at home but QRL have a decent record at The Stoop against the Giants and will be hoping to build upon that.
The Quins have not been to a final in ten years since London Broncos played in the last Challenge Cup Final at the Old Wembley being beaten by Leeds Rhinos and The Giants made an appearance just over the road at Twickenham in 2006 when they gave a really good account of themsleves against a rampant St Helens side, so both teams will be up for the game and this has all the ingredients to be a very good game.
Huddersfield was the place of (what I've been told) one of the Quins worst ever performances a fortnight ago when the Giants hammered Quins 46-6 after our 60-8 win against Wire a week beforehand, so we'll be hoping that BMac will be wanting revenge.
The Giants this week announced the loan signing of Wests Tigers (do they have any players left?) Leon Fulton and its still unsure whether he'll feature on Saturday. The Giants come into the game on the back of a brilliant 22-8 win away at Wigan Warriors so will be full of confidence ahead of the game. Nathan Brown, has recruited well at the Giants and in my opinion has got the balance between youngsters and expirienced heads perfect and I firmly believe after just a quarter of the season that Huddersfield will finish in the play-offs.
We have news filtering down to us that the Giants have shifted 500 tickets ahead of the big game and I'm not going to get into a dispute about the ground before people think "Here we go again". I would firstly like to congratulate the Giants fans for spending the money to come down on Saturday and I'm expecting them to be a noisy bunch so I just hope the QRL fans can get the QRL fans singing over the Huddersfield fans.
Safe journey to and from the game people,
C'Mon You Quins.
Prediction: 24-12 Quins
