A Fundraiser Idea, 30th anniversary bike ride : Thu Jul 23, 2009 1:29 pm
Hi All
I’m posting here with the starting point of an idea for a fundraiser which I hope to do next season.
With it being 30 years since the formation of Fulham, I thought it would be a good opportunity to revisit all the old haunts by cycling around London, stopping at every ground we’ve been able to call home over the past three decades, raising money for London Wheel Chair Rugby.
Since the last bike challenge I completed was Wembley to Berlin’s Olympic Stadium for the start of the football world cup in 2006, I thought a starting point for this could once again be Wembley given our appearance there in 1999. I thought the route could also take in the Skolars ground since their emergence into the National League is another significant point in London RL history.
I’ve not got as far as figuring out an exact route, but have an idea of order of grounds, being as follows:
Wembley, Barnet, Skolars, Crystal Palace, The Valley, Fulham, Chiswick, Brentford, The Stoop.
It did cross my mind that the route could begin and end at The Stoop, maybe if that gets the milage to a nice round number then that might be an idea.
So:
1. Have I missed anywhere?
2. Would anyone fancy doing this as well?
As far as when next season is concerned, I thought either the early part of the year, or around the time of the first Fulham game, was that August? The reason for going for the early part of the season is, it would be nice to finish on a match day, and at least in the first few months Sky don’t shift games with a month notice.
Any thoughts/comments/suggestions chuck them in.
I spoke to Alison about this about a month ago and she mentioned it to people at the club who think it’s a good idea.
Cheers
Simon
