As pleasing as it was to win yesterday, let’s get some context. Halifax were a shadow of the side that played us at home, Tangata and Calahane were anonymous and Moore (G) very quiet. I think once they realised Batley were on the up, their heads went down, only generating any real momentum when Soward was sin binned.
Positives:
We scored some decent tries, Battye double unheard of, and one from Eliab inexplicably struck off.
Bustin did not let himself down and copped a shoulder charge from Moore, which knocked the stuffing out of him.
Game management with the drop goal.
Negatives:
I lost count of the number of dropped ball, Soward, Kear, Api, Magrin, Macani, Macani, Macani, it was painful to watch at times.
Similarly unforced errors, Api being particularly at fault.
At times we made Murrell look like Darren Lockyer, he was picking holes in our defensive line at will.
Our defensive effort was far too mixed, at times we were dominant, more often than not, ‘casual’
Too much reliance on Soward, every 5th the oppo know where the ball is going regardless if he is in a good position or not.
I’d love to know what our completion rate was !!!
Frankly, if we play like we did in the 8s we are going to get pumped.
Halifax fans are possibly the most blinkered bunch of clowns ever. Every pass was forward, every defensive line off side, and they could see this from 90m away. They are conditioned to say forward or off side regardless of whether they believe it or not. Thankfully we won’t see them again until 2017.
