The expression as usual is halved @r53d.
When the club are "advised" they push back and when they try to do something themselves without professional help, they get around to doing things like Oyster Card Holders at Canary Wharf or pointless above the line adverts at an England game 3 months before the season starts, hosting networking meetings dressed like they're auditioning for the part of a tramp in a music video or giving away shirt space to "sponsors" who do little other than their basic offering (or worse = Key & Eagle).
The current video genius partner is simply sprucing up the message that the audience who see it are already bought into.....
As for Buck and Dusty handing out flyers or Aussies trying to attract ANZAC fans.....this is 20+ years too late.
I've just finished watching the Union fluff thing on Netflix and whilst it's insane garbage with nothing new in it, it shows how far we've got to go as a sport in general in the UK to stand a chance of getting any bigger. And without the central government of the sport and IMG driving that in the capital, then it's pointless, because all that's currently happening with IMG etc is a larger version of the Broncos flogging gold tickets to existing fans.....or does anyone believe the sell out WCC will be attended by curious newbies and not die hard RL tragics?
Like everything, it starts and ends with Hughes and Loubser's inability to engage in meaningful business partnerships. Can anyone list the main shirt sponsors we've had since Gus stole Selco from London RL? I mean ones that paid, not partners!
