At this moment in time I genuinely don't know whether to laugh or cry. We are a basket case off the pitch and looking set fair to be hopeless on the pitch yet our CEO seems to think the biggest issue is a bloke in NZ who doesn't think he is up to scratch. Have I spent 13 years of my life, countless hours and pounds for it to come to this?
Gus - few people blame you alone for this. The club was a mess off the pitch before you arrived however I'd be very interested to know what your KPI's are if you are hitting them. A totally failed re-brand and losing a fair chunk of our already small remaining support does not a success make. Oh and announcing we were leaving Twickenham Stoop before the season began thus undermining any attempt to win over the locals wasn't exactly a top banana move. I'm told the curry is very good though so thanks for that.
To the players - I'd like to thank you. Yes thank you. I was wrestling over possibly missing the Hull game (to go home and watch my home town ice hockey teams last game of the season, see family and friends) and Catalans (on the basis I can't be bothered hauling in post work and then getting home stupidly late via train or probably stressed if I've been battling the pre bank holiday traffic.) After yesterday you have made my decisions very very easy.
There is a clear swing on this board / in the ground. For years as a group us fans have tolerated too much, quite simply we have accepted it on the basis we love the sport and if that was the price to pay to watch it then so be it. Now we stand on the cusp of the club failing and that incentive no longer applies. (I met the person I used to sit next to at The Valley in 2001 yesterday, we both agreed that if things don't pick up soon the RLF should think about withdrawing our licence at the end of the season. How sad it has come to two fans of more than a decade standing each saying that.) Highly paid import players who hide when we need them to run with the ball shouldn't expect to be applauded and a CEO who has a good chance of smashing the record Superleague lowest ever crowd v Cats may want to stop reading this board.
I went to Gloucestershire All Golds v Hemel a week ago and enjoyed that more than I enjoy the Broncos these days. Roll on Oxford starting their home games. (Perhaps Gus has a KPI to boost the growth of crowds at these clubs........)
