Skolars make the NRC Plate Final : Sun Mar 17, 2013 6:00 pm  

Barring catastrophe the Skolars today made the NRC Plate final at the Shay with their 3rd consecutive win beating Gloucester 20-0 in atrocious conditions. Skolars lead the group with one to play and have a far better points difference than South Wales. Wheeldon, Dollapi, Thomas and JOC playing for the home side. They have only conceded 3 tries in three games and look to be going well for the new season.

I wonder if they can get promoted up a division at the end of this season.

Are they good enough to win Championship 1?

North Wales look really dangerous and you can't discount Oldham and Rochdale but I will think Skolars should make the play-off final at the very least.

Hemel Stags very narrowly lost to South Wales today in Hemel 20-22 in the NR cup.

I was amazed they played as most of the pitch was under an inch of water. And it pi$$ed it down all afternoon - such a shame for their 1st home game. Grady played for Hemel & Melling also named but not sure he played, I forgot his announced shirt number. Hemel slogged it out until the bitter end. Surprisingly enjoyable given the cold, torrential rain and swimming pool lookalike pitch.

I was reliably informed that the roof will go up over the stand within the next 4 weeks. But boy was it needed today!

I'm still drying out now! Such a shame the Stags lost - being 8 points ahead so close to the end and then letting it slide. Very encouraging performance though, it's going to be a fun season watching them.
Chuffed about the Skolars, barring a humungous points difference swing they're home and hosed. Has anyone seen the pictures from New River - funny. Oldskool Rugby League - all the players in identical mud brown kits.
Anyway, can now start planning to get up to Halifax to cheer them on. London's coming!

Looks like it'll be the Crusaders in the final, who won a close game with Rochdale (late try made the score a bit unrepresentative of the game) in freezing weather at the Racecourse.

All credit to both sets of players at the Skolars and Hemel in attempting to provide entertainment is monsoon condition. The game at New River was played in a good spirit and I was impressed with UGAG who were very committed and not intimidated by the biggest Skolars pack ever. Both Hemel and UGAG look like good additions to the professional game.
