I always find these observations on Broncos away support amusing on many levels. I would regard myself as a long standing and loyal London Broncos fan, I attend pretty much every home game (no matter where they are played) and a smattering of away games. But, I, above all regard myself as a rugby league enthusiast, first and foremost.
What that means is I am in the business of pushing and pushing and pushing the game. Two nights a week I coach juniors and every weekend I spend Saturdays coaching or at festivals all over the south east. I can just about manage Broncos home games, but any suggestion that I would sacrifice more family time with trips to Wakefield on a Sunday or Hull on a Friday night is not on the cards. This scenario applies to many many other rugby league enthusiasts / Broncos fans across the region.
With all that said, I always try to make at least a couple of away trips per season, but I seem to have a complete lethargy about the London Broncos at present, reflecting the feelings from the pitch and off field. Weekly hammerings, no coaching resolution to repeated failures, a complete and utter disengagement with the fans from the back room staff, no communication, nothing. No leadership, no vision, no plan. Plus meaningless games – we are going to finish in the bottom two, we can’t get relegated, who cares about trips to Wakefield, why bother ? So this year my away trips are limited to Perpignan
and Don Valley Stadium!!!
What’s most amusing about the characters who come on here an mock is the extent of their ‘support’ is their own team. A couple of hours each week. The well being of rugby league I am afraid comes a distant second to these people, and this is borne out when it comes to supporting the national team, the World Cup, etc. They don’t. Their only other involvement in rugby league is trolling around forums.
