Seeing as it is the off season I see no harm in starting a separate thread for this one.

Obviously you have been in vicious form lately so I am interested to hear your thoughts on tomorrow evenings match. Earlier in the season you openly did a big wedge on Wigan when they embarrassed themselves against St Helens (I also made a big mistake on the same game). I am feeling like I am about to fall into the same trap once again as I am seeing a big 13/8 about Wigan and I am thinking this is one to get stuck into.

Your thoughts?

Re: FAO markrammond : Thu Sep 12, 2013 4:21 pm
If we look at the last 10 meetings between these sides, we could generally summarize that the winner will probably achieve a double digit margin.

Wigan 12, Huddersfield 30 (SLR24, 9/8/13)
Huddersfield 22, Wigan 10 (SLR3, 16/2/13)
Huddersfield 12, Wigan 32 (SLR14, 18/5/12)
Wigan 16, Huddersfield 20 (SLR1, 5/2/12)
Wigan 46, Huddersfield 12 (SLR18, 25/6/11)
Huddersfield 6, Wigan 20 (SLR6, 18/3/11)
Wigan 16, Huddersfield 18 (SLR25, 15/8/10)
Huddersfield 30, Wigan 38 (SLR14, 16/5/10)
Huddersfield 10, Wigan 28 (SLR13, 2/5/10) - at Murrayfield, Edinburgh
Huddersfield 48, Wigan 16 (SLR27, 13/9/09)

Huddersfield have won 3 out of the last 4 at Wigan and won by 12-18 points twice this year.

So Wigan would need a three try swing if they were to win.

For me, Wigan would need to be going with a Pack like this to stand up to the Giants:
O'Loughlin, Lauaki, Mossop, Hansen or Farrell, Taylor and McIlorum

I would not want to go with any of Flower, Tuson, Dudson, Lloyd, Crosby and Burke as starters

Wigan 19-man squad: Charnley, Crosby, Dudson, Farrell, Flower, Gelling, Green, Greenwood, Hansen, Hughes, McIlorum, Mossop, A. Powell, Richards, Smith, Taylor, Thornley, L. Tomkins, S. Tomkins.

But Wigan will have to - they are missing O'Loughlin and Lauaki and I think they are being dominated in the forwards in the past 10 games or so through lack of size, guys who are robust rather than powerful

Huddersfield 19-man squad: Grix, Cudjoe, Wardle, McGillvary, Brough, Robinson, Crabtree, Lunt, Kopczak, Ferres, Faiumu, Lawrence, Patrick, Chan, Ta'ai, Murphy, Ferguson, Blackmore, Wood.

This looks a winning squad to me, but the value is not too great at 2/3 on...

Let me check my phone on the way back for better markets fella

We'd need some value to place our stakes - I will update by 630 and do more analysis.

Cheers
Mark

I have gone for:

Giants -4 second half 11/8 Ladbrokes
Wigan HT winner 11/8 Ladbrokes

£25 on Giants, £12.50 Wigan

I'll now look at man of match

Mcilorum and Crabtree both 20/1

But want to check how many minutes they on field

I am on £5.75 for Grix at 20/1 and £6.75 Charnley at 16/1 for man of match

Fullbacks often get man of match in major games

Charnley 2 or 3 tries will get him close,he has 39 this year

A Dutch bet about 9/1 for both

A penalty on 39 minutes was most unwelcome to draw Giants back in to the tie at 8-8. They didn't look like breaking the line. 7/4 was good odds for two similar teams.
Now need Giants to win the second half by a converted try. I think Wigan will tire. Let's hope so.

I've backed Wigan to win after that first half. 11/8 seemed big after a very even half.

If Thornley manages to hold on to the ball once or twice it would help though!
