How d'you think the team is shaping up for next season? : Sun Oct 18, 2015 9:13 am
Whilst we haven't had any 'big signings'.......yet I'm generally happy with our off season signings. The players we've brought in are steady and solid and will add a lot of qualities which were missing last year. Especially in the pack, we were lacking in physicality and got bullied on quite a few occasions even by teams lower down the table. Offedahl, Battye and Bussey seem to be a similar type of forward quick, robust with off loading skills and could play in the back row as well as prop. Add those two to Slyney and Thackray and I would expect a pack who can mix it with the best of them. With Battye and Bussey they are still fairly young but have the potential to thrive in a full time environment. We really need an experienced half back to lead the team around, I'm certain that Hendo is looking at recruiting in this position as he's said we're talking to two more players to finalise the squad. The best thing about the strategy if signing players this year is that there's a lack of dual reg/loan players which I'm over the moon about. It causes no end of disruption and the team constantly has to work on new combinations. I just don't see the benefits in us developing other teams players and have them leave in the middle of the season leaving our inexperienced youth to pick up the pieces.
After last years debacle with Joey Grimas signings legging it, coupled with the loan/dual reg events our signings are more stable, reliable and can really help us challenge the likes of Leigh, Sheffield and Bradford....I hope.
Any ideas what our best 17 will be?
