The trouble with being a southern referee is that there isn't enough of the games between the amateur league down here and the National league to be be able to work up the grades. Unless you're prepared to belong to a Northern society and referee up north every weekend or until Rugby League becomes a truly national sport there will never be a southern referee in superleague. Back in the 90's there were at least two referees in the London league that moved up north just so that they could officiate at higher level matches and stand a chance of moving up the grades.
