Melling is fine at FB, but we need a different 'style' of player to partner Dorn/Orr/Gale in the halves.

Sharp must stay, Wells is a little over the hill but could be invaluable as a coach with his experience.

1 more year for Sharp then he'll be done if he continues in the same manner. Dorn out too. I have been saying this since we signed him and its interesting to see how every week more and more people agree that he isn't good enough.

TBH, I wasn't that bothered when he left for Salford "to win trophies" .....
He is a support player that will score tries, but he is not, never was and never will be a play-maker. Oh...and that cross kick worked once, so he feels the need to do it EVERY game rather than take a tackle.

I would have thought what you need to do is sign a couple more players to bring in, not offload players. Throughout your tenure in SL you have struggled to get players interested in your club, though I reckon a top-6 finish would change that. Either some talent from the academy or a couple promising signings is what you need, not less players.

I think Wells is a fine fullback, but he offers little on the wing these days, which is a problem, if he's not going to be selected at fullback he probably shouldn't be selected at all (but then we're not overwhelmed with classy wingers).

Sharp has looked very nervous this season, he's great as a broken field runner, but I get the feeling he's likely to spill the ball everytime he's tackled, either that or he'll throw a wild pass rather than accept a tackle.

Dorn is a strike player, that's all, and he's out of sorts at that, so that's pretty much his entire game down the pan. Gale likes to dart about a lot, which is good when Orr is controlling things, but not so good when nobody is controlling things.

Gafa's peformances this season have gone down hill, the last two games he's been shambolic.

The highlights have been home grown, LMS tried his heart out on Saturday, as did Lamont from the bench. I think Clubb showed in spells why he could be a top quality, wide running second row, rather than a stand in crash ball centre.

At prop Haggy is fine as an impact prop, but Ward and Hecks look plodding in comparison to LMS and Temata, who are both more mobile and have greater stamina. Realistically we need to get rid of one of Hecks and Ward (probably Hecks given his injuries) and get someone a bit more dynamic.

All I ask is:
Get Clubb in the second row to give us a running game in the forwards. Get rid of Gafa and get another centre to partner Howell next season. Bring in at least one quality winger.
Get rid of Dorn, keep Gale, and bring in just one half decent organiser to take the weight of Orr.

I don't ask much do I?

I would love to see Wells off the playing field and in the office. He understands the club, the fans and businees and cares passionately about all three. Can hold his own in any situation and communicate with people of all levels, and it could be useful to have a legal brain on board. He is a very intellegent young man and very discreet. He should be our CEO working alongside Paul Blanchard as General Manager and the club might stand a chance. Wells understanding of RL and Blanchard's understanding of business could be a real scoop.

Despite our league position, statistically, some of our players have done superbly.

As PTB pointed out, Sharp ranks in the top 5 for all of SL in 3 areas.
Our top tackler this year is Golden, Melling ranks highly for meters as does LMS.

We've got a great team really, but we're just not performing for one reason or another.

The core of the team for 2010 should be:

Melling, Sharp, LMS, Clubb, Gale, Randall, Golden & Purdham.

Orr, Howell & possibly Robinson and Ward to feature.

I feel we've always lacked in forwards and with Temata knocking on the wrong side of 30 & Williamson yet to really stand out for me, it's time to freshen this up.

FB: Melling
W: Sharp
C: Howell
C: Clubb/new signing
W: New signing
SO: Gale
SH: Orr
PR: LMS
HK: Randall
PR: Ward/new signing
SR: Golden
SR: Robinson/New signing
LF: Purdham

Plus 'squad strengthening' in the forwards and I think we could push on.

Big Dave Williams & Jamie O'Callaghan could have a more prominent role, but new props are a must.
