If we were playing just Londoners we would barely be able to compete in the National Leagues (unfortunately)
Spot on to my eyes. Whilst many of the imports have been disappointing I'd suggest the biggest flaw we have is that many of the local lads have yet to prove themselves as up to Superleague, and frankly some look like they never will prove themselves up to it.
With one eye on growing the game in London and the other on sourcing some cheap first contract players we are always likely to take a chance on a few lads. Some will work, some won't, that's the nature of the beast with first contract players. However we are usually relying on a few too many who have yet to prove themselves in the 17 which is giving the opposition areas to exploit. Throw in the fact that many of our imports are not quite delivering as we would like and that our northern imports tend to be honest solid SL players but not stars, who frankly wouldn't sign for us anyway, and you have a team that is unable to make up for / cover up for its weaker elements.
Incidentally I'd suggest it is unfair to say Craig Gower is not delivering. He does his best on the pitch and seems to be a good influence off it. He's even been known to rock up at Aldershot to watch the U21's, as was, something very few senior players have bothered to do over the years. It's not his fault he's too good for most of his team mates, a problem that Scott Hill had at times too.............
