The reason I started this topic was because this is going to be our team in the next 12-24 months. I feel we could actually benefit from dropping to the Championship for a year or two then pushing to regain an SL place with promotion with a team consisting of 90% Londoners.
We've never really sat down and analysed things thoroughly as a club over our history. We've managed to maintain a SL presence often when we shouldn't have. It maybe that a few years at a lower level to get some solid foundations in place could help.
Look at Quins RU - for a number of seasons they we a bottom end team (even with a sell out crowd) that bumbled along with an average squad (yes, they had one or two internationals also) but weren't ever pushing for the title. They ultimately had a bad season, got relegated and were forced to shed the majority of their "established players". They sat down, promoted the youth and worked their way up again (luckily for them in the first season) - but now boast a first team littered with academy raised players.
With the U16's and U19's at the Broncos being at a high level in their respective leagues, this could be our future pathway too.
I'd accept a few years of no SL for the greater good of us coming back with foundations that will see us prosper in SL in the future.
Even if DH leaves and takes the money with him, there is still a large enough desire in the south east and London for this team to remain active. It's being done by half the Championship sides now - I doubt many of them have millionaire investment.
The future (in the long run) is bright people.
