Re: Sunday v Fev : Mon Sep 26, 2016 10:38 am
Few musings from yesterday’s game.Well deserved win, great character and commitment on display epitomised by Kear and Slyney chasing down Thackeray length of the field intercept. Skill aplenty, sublime kicks, chases, solid in defence. Mr Child had a decent game.
Good effort from the Fev fans for what was a game of pride for them. We, the fans, seemed a bit flat, maybe the season has come to the end at the right point. That said, the post match announcements and subsequent social were excellent, and the vibe was so upbeat I cannot remember one like it for years. Next season can’t come soon enough.
Players leaving, Wes, what a guy, so humble, in my eyes a Broncos legend, another knee operation in the offing and a career outside the game. Nick Slyney, here again a Broncos legend, solid, dependable, will be a massive miss next year. #33 would loved to have kept him but money talks, maybe DH should have gone all out to keep him (my hunch, Catalans calls). Sad to see Izzy go, I think we started to see the true player towards the end of the season but his aspiration for World Cup must come first. Jack B, good kid will light up C1; Alex Foster another big loss, but family matters; Ilies and Jon M, well they had their chance and wish them good luck at Bradford; Scott L, bit surprising (partner pregnant) as I think he has come on leaps and bounds this year; Ben Gray, not sure what’s going on there. Finally the one and only JT, how did Thacks miss that conversion, true legend of the game never mind Broncos and I wish him well.
Question – where was Cunno yesterday ?
The rumoured incomings to add to the confirmed Tom Spencer, Dalton Grant, Adrian Purtell, Jay Pitts ...... Danny Craven (anonymous for Fev yesterday), Mike Channing (?), Ben Evans and, wait for it, Jarrod Sammut.
Probably on balance an improvement ?
Heard from a reliable source that if we had got into SL, we would have moved to Brentford. No please no. We have settled here, DH has constantly said the ground is ripe for development and yes, it is not currently where it needs to be but I for one, after huge initial reservations, have grown to like it. We just can’t keep moving, it not acceptable. I would love to see the planning permissions as to what could be done on the site. I can’t help feeling one of the biggest issues is the size and location of the coaches / subs area, as it limits the view and removes the possibility of a temp stand running along the side line.
A season that has exceeded my expectations ends. Next year every team will be looking to put us down a peg or two. Now the hard work begins for the back office to plan and ensure 2017 is even better for the fans.
