Or go up on the day, good suggestion mate. One of joys of Cardiff and Edinburgh was staying in town, being able to walk to and from the stadium without worrying about trains. Believe lots of folk disliked Cardiff because of hotel prices!
Anfield is a daft idea particularly that weekend, SL didn’t really think about it!

Elland Road would be ideal...... And it would create a demand for tickets.
Anfield/Merseyside Council obviously offered more than the geordies would pay..... There can be no other reason for this insane decision to have it the same days as the fun runs..... Saturday will be less of an impact but there may well still be roads closed outside anfield 30 minutes before the first game Sunday.

This decision to take the Magic Weekend to Anfield. With all thats going on in the city, on top of being a bank holiday. Just shows how detached from the fans the administrators of the game are.
I bet they are sitting there now, with cheesy grins on their faces, patting each other on the back say. Well done old chap, f*cked the fans up again, but we will have a good time. A really poor show!!!!

Depends who you view as the administrators, I am pretty sure this one is down to Robert at SL not the RFL.
Shame really but hey, hope it’s a decent weekend despite the perceived problems.

For Wigan, Wires, Saints possibly 3 of the largest teams its just a 30 min train ride

It makes no odds to us as we will have to travel no matter what.

I didn't like Citys ground as it was out of the way as was Edinburgh. Is Liverpool worse than them 2?

Oh I am sure this is down to Elstone, he obviously has connections in the city.

Why is Liverpool any worse than Newcastle? Both big football cities with no or little RL presence.

Nowt wrong with either, but RL Fans have a gift for finding fault somewhere and in this case it's easy to find it in the marathon on Sunday which will require the roads around Anfield to be either closed or gridlocked up to 30 minutes before the first KO that day.....
Given the decision is 100% a fiscal one, I take it that Liverpool Council have decided to go "all guns blazing" in attracting major events in terms of increasing local revenues...., but I really can see a logistical nightmare on the Sunday.

For me, if the SL bosses want to maximise revenues, then Elland Road next year.....and fill it both days. Nothing better with which to beat up TV execs than a packed stadium 2 days running.....Anfield will be half empty at best with folf needing to leave straight after their game to get home because there aren't any hotels available (at a decent rate anyhow)....Trivago have the Holiday inn Knowsley for £100 at the moment though...get in quick as the next cheapest is £260

I think the main difference is the availability of anything else in the locality. Cardiff and Newcatle have a huge amount of pubs, food etc in close proximity. Anfield, Edinburgh and Etihad were a little bit out of the way so to speak.
