Many a successful sports club don't need fans to darken turnstiles.....but they do have shops that ship internationally

Re: FAO Gutterfax : Sun Feb 16, 2014 9:15 pm
Fantastic weekend at the 9's has only gone further in underlining my disappointment at the acceptance of dross both on and off the pitch that some fans on here come to accept. 2 of the dodgiest blokes in sports event marketing and management were initially responsible for the Auckland 9's. They invested very little money, but put in an enormous amount of work and the result is 2 (possibly 4) more events before another city gets to bid to host the 9's.......as I say, they are as dodgy as hell, but fair play to them. They deserve every penny they make!

London on the other hand, Spanked by a mediocre Widnes side (no disrespect, but they are average at best) and with no real prospect of staying up, are trundling towards oblivion and it is up to the fans to make sure that David Hughes and Gus Mackay are aware of the hope and dreams they are crushing (have crushed)

Supporting a team is more than just about the results on the park. It is about "belonging" and "being part of" an existence that becomes part of the supporters life. Critics say sports fanatics use "their team" as an emotional crutch and they may be right, but it doesn't change the fact that the onus of responsibility for the welfare of the club sits with those who HAVE CHOSEN to take up positions of responsibility.

Not looking backwards, but forwards here......2014 is going to be the worst year in the 19 seasons of London Superleague and the blame lies specifically with one man and his employee/lackey. The team will run out to its first ever 3 figure SL gate in London in 2014.......the team will be lucky to score a competition point all year and David Hughes will step away some 14 million lighter after 6 seasons, with nothing left in the way of a legacy for all his FINANCIAL effort.

Pleas to "get to the Hive" from the newly anointed Barnet FC fan club on here, with ominous warnings of "NO FANS = NO CLUBS" should be ignored, because if you can't see the corpse in front of you and remain as you are, don't dare complain when the stench becomes unbearable

Eat, sleep whinge, repeat.

So there is no hope and quite frankly I suspect the last season and the prophecy is correct. I really don't see a solution without a white knight which is highly unlikely. Most on here recognise that. However I would be grateful for your views on how the club's long term future will be safeguarded by those on this forum?

WTF?
I can wax lyrical about "marketing strategy" for 2014, but in reality (and we will never truly know) if they'd listened to my inane ramblings some 10 years ago, I suspect we'd have a bigger fans base to start rebuilding with.

Solution for now?

The RFL should immediately remove the Licence from the club citing David Hughes as an unfit person to run a SL club......they should ring-fence the SL status for 10 years and auction the club to someone who is prepared to spend their millions BUILDING A LASTING FUTURE and not employing mates and yes-men, ignoring the claims and advice of others, because HE OWNS IT!
If they are no longer interested in expansion, then they will let us die...

BTW, those who think the Skolars or smaller clubs "organically growing" is the way to expand SL need their heads looking at. The London Skolars are a really well run organisation, but they are light years away from being anything other than a well run semi-pro set up.

AK, if he wants to Keep the Broncos will need to either accept us as paying tenants and clip the ticket, or INVEST time and Money in building from the bottom up. We will be on sub 1k gates next year in the championship...he needs to be prepared to invest over 10 years to BUILD something.....currently, he has had it given to him with a brown envelope.

As I say, I'd much have preferred that the club actually loving listened tome (and everyone else who warned them) but if you feel better by asking for instant fixes, so be it.

None of which answers my question. Your answer was about what others could do including the RFL and AK. This forum is populated by humble fans. Question what can we, including yourself, actually do to change the current situation?

No change will occur while the present management are in post. I think there will be sub 1k gates this year never mind in year two. I am not going to be popular but while you have the current set up with GUS and co I believe nothing is going to change other than failure. The seeds for our roses where sown before the start of last season and BFC have been handed a difficult if impossible task.
Solution, those responsible for this current fiasco should resign there is merit in what glumfox has said with regard to a quick fix. It has also been said no fans no club, but LB as they stand now are not the club I have been following for many years, and the rot set in with the current CEO if not before.
BFC may try but their pricing structure appears inflexible and expensive compared with last year. For example getting the "youth through the door" and I do not mean U14's but U19's is something the club should be trying to achieve since they are the future generation. Instead they are been priced out of the market. Not many young people have deep pockets anymore and any funds they have will be a premium. Given we are likely to see many results like today it is not going to be a pleasant experience for LB fans or newbies hoping to see a competitive game. Look at the current availability of seats for next week and the result is depressing. My guess would be not many of past season ticket holders have signed up (me included - but in my defence I will miss many home games) to the membership scheme. Do I want to watch rugby the answer is yes, but not at the price of supporting the current management who have got us in the mess we are at the moment and see no viable future for LB in their present state.
