Re: Rip off Quins!!! : Thu Mar 25, 2010 1:29 pm
I have weighed up my response to this very carefully and can see some of the points from both the for and against camps. I am very disappointed with what is occuring, here are the facts as I see them.1. £25 is the normal fee for a Quins Union match so as a Union fan if you are prepared to hang about you get to see free superleague, if you aren't you pay exactly the same as you would week in week out.
2. Last year as I recall my entry as a full price adult was £15 and my mother paid £10 as a concession. To get the same seat for the same fixture mum pays 100% more than last year whilst I pay and extra £10.
3. I as many others have no interest whatsoever in attending a union game and think the choice should be available. If it's about raising the profile of SL in London then why not charge each set of supporters what they usually pay and allow those choosing to watch the union game the option of free admission to the SL game what in affect is actually happening. Those Saints fans who want to see the two then buy a union ticket and watch both for £25 where as those who don't aren't forced with a all or nothing situation.
I have spoken to both clubs regarding this, one was very supportive and sympathetic of the supporters concerns whilst the other was totally uninterested and saw it as a opportunity to sell surplus tickets to Union fans. I will let you decide which is which. I am not having a go at anyone for wanting to promote the sport in London as I see this is a good thing. What I am having a go at is the removal of being able to make the choice. The league fans are not been afforded the same benefits as their Union Counterparts.
Finally the people who I feel more sympathy for than anyone are the Quins RL fans as they have a team not performing well on the pitch and season ticket holders aside their "pay as you view" and walk up support are also having to pay the higher fee. Quins really need to start looking after the fans that they already have before promoting the game on the off chance they might get a few Unions fans crossing over. I can see after the few thousand extra on the gate has been spent and the attendance figures long forgotten the Quins League fans will not forget so quickly
I will still be attending the fixture SL but can't listen to anymore drivel about it only being an extra £5 or £10 without having a say. I will be doing so with with my own refreshments and taking my tenner money back by boycotting the concessions and bar. More than one way to skin a cat and all that.
