Correct. You can't judge or base your season on a friendly, its nothing more than a run out at the end of the day.

Conceding 30+ points and scoring none has to be worrying..... Friendly or not!

Selco, answer our prayers!

David Hughes - The Gerald Ratner of Rugby League? Discuss. Or not as the case may be.

Certainly puts a different complexion on those opening "gimme" fixtures.

The way the team seem to handle the wind, rain & mud, no away fixture can be seen as a "gimme"

At home is a different matter though.

Maybe against the so-called lesser teams.

I imagine games against actual top 4 contenders will play out as follows.

Broncos will use their familiarity with the quick pitch to score early & then get pegged back as the opponents acclimatise.

A real mud bath. A Saturday afternoon with Eddie Waring commentating sort of game, steam coming off the scrum and low cloud. It was awful.
Dewsbury took it in their stride played a short kicking game, drove up the middle with their big props and went in low when near the line to score more often than not.
We however tried to go round and kept being pushed into touch, or we kicked far too deep. we made so many handling errors. No idea how to play the conditions.
Training on the Ealing pitch did us no favours yesterday.
Oldham next, best keep an eye on the weather up there.

Life is pretty simple: You do stuff. Most fails. Some works. You do more of what works.

Re: Dewsbury 'Friendly' : Mon Feb 01, 2016 8:39 pm
Henderson suggests that we didn't play to the conditions and tried to play dry weather football. Given a good opportunity at half time to get them to rethink the approach was there any evidence that the team amended the approach in the second half. Or was it just more of the same?

We started the second half better, but the revival did not last too long.

Damage had been done by then I would imagine. Hopefully Hendo will have learnt the lesson don't turn up with a lightweight pack and expect anything other than a hammering! Better to have learnt the lesson in preseason ( although it ought to have been self evident) than when the competitive games start.

Looks like we went up there to play a friendly and throw the ball around. They set out to grind us into the mud and did!

Think lesson has been learnt if we want 2 points away from home, there is a fear that the 4G pitch will make us like the Catalans perfectly adapted to their home conditions but rubbish on the road.

Think both coach and captain have got the point though:

Rain still falling in the north and Oldham losing some of their play makers, expect more of the same on Sunday.

There are a few of them this year. Fax, Dewsbury, Bulls, Leigh, Eagles just to name a few strong squads. Fev on the edge. Its a tough league
