Alas, it is a fact of life that for a fair few generations the majority of people employed in Media have been university educated/Oxbridge types. Not saying the north hasn't produced some brilliant journalists or that northerners have only just started to go to University....but the people that matter generally come from or aspire to an upper middle calss standing....associated with the home counties.
Whether the amount of Union coverage compares well with League is really neither here nor there really......the Media includes SKY and without them we both know where the game would be today.......in worse shape than it was in 1995.
I for one would love to see an equal amount of coverage in the press for the 2 games....but let's face it, England Union v Italy at TW2 sells out on minutes....England v Australia at Bell End Road takes weeks to sell a respectable amount of tickets.....Quins RU can get 50k to a league game for gods sake....why would the nationals cover what is essentially still a very localised sport?

Let's face it....we haven't really done ourselves any favours either. Union have won a world cup, various 6 nations and triple crowns, they have a sevens team doing OK (in bright orange jerseys ), the Dutch lager cup and the premiereship......there's plenty to cover and the audience are patently there or it wouldn't be written. League needs to think bigger....MM should be played at Wembley IMO.....the home town of the media. FFS.....Cardiff and Edinburgh are where these media people buy retirment homes....who cares if 12 northern teams, a london side and the french are off to cardiff at the weekend? Play it in London.....book out hotel rooms...cause traffic chaos....GET NOTICED.
