Well part of my proper plan would have meant investment, marketing etc... course if we don't have this then its all over I suppose. We can't really carry on as we are can we? As for who the investers could be - who knows? Where did the Salford Dr appear from? Do the owners of SELCO want to buy a rugby club? Or Barry Hearn? Or Tony Kleanthous? I'd hoped that Ian Lenagen would have stuck around, I thought he might have been our best chance but we all know how that ended up!
People who have made it rich like to patronise their home towns football/RL/RU club who they probably supported as a youth. They have been brought up on the sport in the town and have at some time made a strong affinity with the club. e.g.Simon Moran worth about £200 Million was born in Warrington. Ken Davey at Hudds is a yorkshireman who started his first business up in Huddersfield when he was 21. In June 2001 he sold his then company DBS for £75 million. Dr Koukash came here from Kuwait and has lived in Liverpool for about 30 years. Apparently he made his money from worldwide property developments. He may not have seen much RL but he clearly wants to get into getting a high sports profile in the local region. IL was a RL fan far from his roots at Wigan who were not for sale when he came to us. He was a rich RL fan living in Oxford? and clearly wanted more direct involvement in RL so although LB may have seemed to be a big task we were relatively close for travel purposes for him to get actively involved. If Wigan hadn't come up for sale we would have been a force in SL by now with his backing. Finding someone like him who has a RL background living down south who is prepared to put money into the LB's is one tall order. Remember, DH himself originates from Swinton so has that RL affinity from his youth which made a connection with us.
People like Barry Hearn will take some converting to a sport with a low profile down south with little credit locally let alone Nationally.
