| Quote Paddock Punter="Paddock Punter"If someone puts a case I will listen to it. The repeated folly of rebranding and renaming and moving every few years has got us not very far forward in 30 years.'"
Wot ee sez, bruv. The only point I can see in any rebranding would be around a big sponsorship deal to "re-brand" us as London and the name of a well known brand or product or "health" drink if the rumour mill is to be believe). Outside of this, then the only other time to re-brand would be upon moving to new premises.
Quote Paddock Punter="Paddock Punter"We may be strengthening the squad a bit for next season but if all the money being thrown at this by yet another chief exec trying to put his stamp on us were to be spent on further players or (with gritted teeth in homage to GF) on marketing that to me would make far more sense.'"
But what if this is new signing stategy is in conjunction witha targetted marketing campaign to residents within say a 20 mile radius of The Stoop. Wouldn't that signal were at The Stoop for a little longer ???
Or is it like I have believed just a red herring to divert attention from our on field poor performance and activity in support of our Licence application???????

| Lambeth Quin - I think you have hit the nail on the head with your last para. If the club felt that re-branding had to be done to secure us a new licence, then I am right behind it.
Re your second para, I thought it had been stated that we were at The Stoop for the next three years. I do hope so anyway.

Oh we have a chip on our shoulders, I may be a Northerner but I can assure you I am not anti-union they show us up these days with marketing and the way their premiership is run. Some Northerner mates who supported Saints could never understand why I was a member of Orrell RUFC but I enjoyed going to matches and one of the players I knew went on to play for Salford after I had approached him. In fact working it out I always did well in the Orrell international ticket draw and I have been to Twickenham more times than I think Wembley, the atmosphere amazing, even though some of the toffs on the car park with their picnic baskets got up my nose, LOL, sorry Dave but you do like to put people in boxes, real life is not like that.

| Quote gutterfax="gutterfax"Really? On what do you base this statement?
No...and once the final home game is played I will post some stats on here to prove that we have done no better or worse than when we were the Broncos.
It makes no difference what we are called..........how we announce what we are called and how many times we invite people to come and watch us is what will make the difference.'"
When I said move on, I meant in the name change sense - however I've never been a fan of the Stoop because it lacks atmosphere in comparison with Brentford and is in an area ambivalent to RL (very few locals watch and IMO will ever watch Quins RL).
Talking about losing fans - I know quite a few who stopped going immediately after the name change to Quins. The Welsh posse are an excellent example. I also have not seen Louise and Steve since the name change - formerly very staunch well known vocal London RL fans.
Crowds are less than they were at Griffin Park, but have been pumped up recently by ticket giveaways. Nevertheless I think the club did pick up a few new fans since moving to the Stoop. Hopefully some old fans will come back after the Quins moniker is ditched
Anyone who thinks a name change won't make a difference is deluded and probably a "Quins" brand lover anyway. It will make a HUGE difference. The Quins brand offered nothing for the RL club. It doesn't even have a civic link which is more important for RL clubs than RU clubs

How you come to that conclusion is a baffling as you unending loyalty to the Quins brand, I think Lobbygobbler1 states his case well, I agree the Quins and this is not Anti Union brand has done us no good it in fact harmed us, The Stoop worked first time around but then we did not have there brand, but the damage has now been done.
Why can't people accept a survey was done and a clear majority backed the club in a name change and long term to look to owning or part owning a ground, if people had said no we want to keep the Quins brand and stay forever at The Stoop I can assure you I would not have thrown my dummy out like many seem to keep doing.

Perhaps you don't like to see the truth & fact or simply do not purchase the club programme?
The sooner this is resolved the better, then I really hope the squabbling can stop and we can move on to see Our Club succeed in Super League.

My bad. I don't tend to buy the matchday programme, I must confess.
I'm surprised as many as that voted as well, that's better than I thought.

Ah, well, the question asked was just a bit loaded.
Here's part of the survey:
2. Should Quins RL change their club name?
-No Preference
-Yes
-No
3. If the club were to be renamed, whether you answered Yes or No to question 2, we would value your thoughts. Given the club's proximity to London, would you agree that a reference to 'London' should appear within the name.
-Yes
-No

| Also its worth pointing out that the reverse survey was not carried out when the club was London Broncos whilst at Brentford. In fact the club moved very quickly and changed the name without asking fans.
I can tell you that if there had been a vote then, I doubt that more than 1% of fans would have voted to switch from "London Broncos" to "Quins"

I think we weren't asked at Brentford because, as I understand it, Nic Cartwright and co went cap in hand to Harlequins to sort out ground sharing or Harlequins taking us over after London Broncos went bust. Becoming Harlequins RL and adopting their pastel colours was made a condition of the deal. I don't think the club were given a choice so consequently the fans had no say in the matter!
Stiil ,on the bright side we won't have to play under the pastel flag of convenience for much longer!!

| The long and short of the change to Quins RL was quite simple. David Hughes had decided enough was enough when it came to hurling money down the drain and wanted someone else to share the financial burden. Ian Lenegan was willing to assist but only if we became Quins RL as he didn't see any future for us as London Broncos and thought the Quins link up might work. The name was part of the deal however the kit wasn't quite so certain. Ian didn't want us to wear the RU kit, hence the initial talk about a RL influenced kit however he had his mind changed by Mark Evans who pointed out that if we were trying to win over Quins RU fans mucking about with a 150 or so year old traditional kit probably wouldn't be a great starting point.
Put simply if there had been a vote at the time of the name change it would basically have been do you want a) a club called Quins RL or b) no club.
I suspect the name Quins RL would have got a bit more than 1% of the vote.
Edited to add that whilst there was no survey a small number of "key" fans were consulted about the Quins move. I wasn't one but a then high profile fan who was a close friend was one of them. He has drifted away, personal reasons caused him to move, but at least one of the others consulted regularly posts on this board. I'll leave it up to them whether they wish to confirm the truth of this as I don't think they have ever publicly said they were consulted.

I was one of the few consulted. After the initial shock and after it was explained as in the above by Halfdan, it was accepted as 'force majuere'. We were told that the Quins brand would bring in lots of corporate sponsors..................

Credit to Poplar. To make sure there is no speculation as to who the other person I know who was consulted was, it was Poplar. I disagree slightly with him (I'm more in the Paddock camp as in terms of don't re-name us spend the money on a good team instead) however back at the time Poplar was presented with no realistic option. If we hadn't become Quins RL the top team in London would have been London Skolars. The simple fact is we have only had fully professional RL in London for the past few seasons due to the link up with Quins RU. (Poplar and I come from different sides on this but trust us, it is true.) Claiming being Quins RL has damaged full time RL in London is laughable. Without us being Quins RL we would no longer exist and neither Louis or Tony would have played for their nation, the likes of Dan and Mikey wouldn't have played for their nation at junior levels, indeed Dan would probably never have played RL as he grew up playing RU.
Whatever we may think of the decision to change name, and Poplar and I disagree on this one, the blunt truth is the decision has been made. The future of fully professional RL in London is on the line and we all need to back the sport irrespective of whatever we may personally feel about the imminent changes. In a few weeks time we change name, in three years time we may lose fully professional RL in London. Which is more important?
Long live London whatever we are called, where ever we are playing next year, RL................

| Hopefully when the name change is announced the vast majority on here will get behind the new incarnation, there is no choice unless you prefer the heroic efforts of the mighty Skolars (I support both teams of course), We will have 3 years to make it work.Hopefully that will focus some minds.

| This may be controversial but think about what im about to say before you dismiss it out of hand. I think the best think Quins (or what ever they will be called next year) could have done to boost attendances and core support would have been to drop into the championship for 3 years, think about it new fans are more likely to be attracted to a winning team challenging for honours (all be it in a division down) than a team near the foot of the super league getting hammered week after week.
