SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done But he with a chuckle replied That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried. So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin On his face. If he worried he hid it. He started to sing as he tackled the thing That couldn’t be done, and he did it!
Let me tell you a quick ditty about expansionism - we live in a world of constant globalisation. And whomsoever doesn't embrace it, dies.
It's a sensitive thing to mention on the Quins board given recent events, but Sky are the biggest single benefactor of the sport. Like it or not, TV revenues drive the top sport in this day and age, look at RU, Football, Cricket, Tennis and the like.
Any sport that contracts and withers up it's own a*se faces extinction. Sky will pay less and less for a sport that can only offer competition in a narrow corridor of the country. The more global the exposure, theoretically the larger the catchment, the bigger the advertising revenue that can be generated and subsequently the larger slice of the pie the sport can ask for and give to the clubs.
So, if instead of wimpering about having yet another SL club inside a 30 mile radius, get behind the expansion clubs and give them your support - they face a hard enough task anyway!
ps - it's statistician.
Absolutely true , bit dont forget that that money then only goes to the clubs that play in the televised competition , a competition from which clubs are being excluded because of location
So what exactly do we have to gain by supporting these expansion clubs ?

a) The opportunity to have a high (as possible) profile sport that you love on TV watched by people across the country/world, with sponsors queing up to put in money across all levels, SL, national league, community.
(the alternative is to sit and wither and end up with a localised sport, popular only in 2 or 3 areas of the world, sponsored (over here) by small local firms, pie companies, ale companies and gambling companies - this is already starting to happen, League is slowly losing the war...)
b) The chance to enter the competition by making sure you're a great second tier club, then applying for a license.
c) A larger talent pool due to more people playing the sport, resulting in a better international side, resulting in England possibly beating the Aussies. Resulting in more people liking RL because we have an interesting Interntational competition, resulting in more people playing/watching....call it a virtuous circle if you like...?
Rugby League, the sport I know and love, has already found itself in a sorry position due to the parochial nature of its small minded fans for over a 100 years.....

Doesn't actually work that way unfortunatley
Not happen with location included as criteria
In fact the RFL would be much happier if some of the smaller clubs ceased to exist as they have the misguided belief that fans would switch alliegance
Yes I agree with the larger playing pool and an eventual better international competition
But in all honesty the clubs outside have enough issues surviving to be too focused on that

Last leigh player to make the England team would be Mickey Higham
Before that probably Paul Rowley
Then again it does work both ways , if we didn't have local SL clubs taking young players from the Leigh area we would possibly have got Scott Moore at leigh
I'm not attacking Quins attendances , just defending the right of clubs outside SL to prioritise what they do for their own benifit , which is exactly what the SL clubs do

so leave quins out of it, they have been around for nearly 30 years, hardly a new club are they??

it's only took LONDON RL 30 years, aww bless, better late than never
like widnes leigh didn't get a franchise, just loving well get over it.
franchise - what a joke - just like London RL's crowds (inc skolars)
Promotion/Relegation, ah, those were the days. Did London RL get promoted to Sooper Dooper league, NO you were selected - DO US A FAVOUR and get de-selected. Your crowds are an embarassment to the RFL.
Put that in your pipe and 'smoke it'.
