Anyone know contract length for players we have signed. Are these mainly one year deals ?

Snoops. What do you think?

Re: New Signings : Sun Feb 02, 2014 11:52 pm
Its a well trodden and risky path, signing up run of the mill Australians, who are already carrying "chronic" injuries, so cannot begin the NRL season. We took it one step further by attempting to sign the bloke who had already retired, but its an uphill battle trying to recruit so late in the day, so calculated risks on players fitness are being taken...
The production line which was Welsh Rugby Union for classy half backs and forwards needs re-opening! The talent is still there as is the raw untapped talent on the streets of London and the South. Hopefully, Longy can use his Wigan, Saints & Salford links to open a few doors.
The challenge though is not simply to avoid relegation this year, but to develop a Club both on and off the field that can be eventually sustainable at this level in future years.

That's why the return of p & r is so short sighted. Signing of iffy Aussies against bringing on your kids.

Yes. Licensing was the correct model for this sport. However, the fact that under the licensing system we've come no closer to beating to the Aussies, coupled with the financial problems endured by many SL clubs made it difficult to sustain.

If sky put us on a level footing financially with the NRL we would all have enough money to stay clear of the problems the 'lesser clubs' experience. We would also be able to keep our best players here to strengthen SL and continue developing youngsters without fear of relegation. The fact that they are signing our best players up tells us something i think. We are now as good as them in the forwards but have not cought up with them in the backs so progress is being made. Who knows what would have happened if we had beaten the Kiwis in the semis.

It's a longer process to produce a talent pool from local players than the current licence process has allowed to really validate it's success in improving competition - it's the overall quality improvements though increased player numbers that will supply England. Whilst I would agree that most of the current England team are the best available, there needs to be competition from players in lower positioned clubs than Warrington, Wigan, Saints, Leeds, and South Sydney :) . The England Knights show the potential, and there were a few missing from the team that beat Samoa.

I'm not sure that paying Aussies is cheaper than locally produced players - it shouldn't be.

Life is pretty simple: You do stuff. Most fails. Some works. You do more of what works.
