After an extensive Google research campaign  I believe that this is a good appointment by the Club and one that will pay dividends.
It would seem that, even though he only spent 6 months in East Hull (for whick he deserves a medal  ) he is well liked by all concerned with HKR.
I am particularly pleased with the quote from HERE
"Blanchard built on that launch to record Surrey's best financial year in 2007, with a turnover of £23m and a retained profit of over £750k. He was also responsible for the largest domestic sponsorship deal in cricket with Brit Insurance."

Also pleasing is the quote below
"Harlequins FC Chief Executive, Mark Evans, added: “I am delighted to welcome Paul to the Harlequins family and look forward to working with him in a close and mutually beneficial way.”

All in all, a positive step by the club and one that they have obviously worked hard to achieve.
The future's bright...the future's multicoloured 8)

NFL Europe, the Scottish Premier League, Southampton Football Club, Surrey County Cricket Club, and Hull Kingston Rovers........and now Harlequins Rugby League.
Tried to dig a bit deeper, but to be fair, he was well liked at Saints, HKR were impressed with him and SCC generated increased revenues during his tenure.
Interesting choice of Job Title. Could be he will take over the marketing and sales ops as well as the day 2 day running of the company.

This sounds like a man we need. Deeply ingrained in the UK sporting market who will have a wide range of contacts and experience at his disposal.

As for the job title, it sounds like he will be reporting to a CEO. GM is usual the title given to a man in his position in sporting orgs I have been involved in.

Looks like a good appointment for you. Bit surprised he's immediately available, perhaps he just couldn't hack living in Hull? Hopefully ihe might stay longer than six months at quins.

my comments from another thread

Hope he does well for you .....but i never thought he was up to the job he was doing at Craven Park from the dealings I had with him .....or should i say lack off .....as he was either not in the office when i called by phone or not available if i went to the ground in person ,,,,,and if you asked him to ring back he never did ......BTW at this time i was looking into putting money into the game for the company i was working for and his lack of cooperation went in some way to that budget now going into motor racing instead.

Bonus for you guys as he was at Surry CC,,,,,he should have more buisness contacts down there then up north

What was ME supposed to say . I welcome the odious fat git to to Quins in the hope he further reduces the crowds and I can finally rid West London of ignorant BO ridden Northerners

i don't want to sound like a bitter rovers fan, but despite coming to us with an impeccable cv, he totally underwhelmed in the 6 months he was in his post with us, even though all he had to do was build on the impressive work that had been done by paul lakin (who was poached by wolverhampton wanderers).

His remit when he came was to progress our ground developments particularly a new north stand, bearing in mind his success with similar projects for surrey ccc. Now he may have been unlucky in the timing regarding this project, what with very few capital building projects getting off the ground in the recession, but he seemed to let all the other responsibilities of his job slide, such as generating sponsorship, day to day running of the club and media commitments.

During his reign we also had the farcical situations of the on/off dubai pre season training trip (a totally unrealistic pipe dream), the major problems with kit supplier kooga (pink shirts, not on time etc.) and the players being paid late before christmas.

Although the parting of the ways was reported as amicable most fans saw this as a sacking by any other name. Now it may just be a one off his time at rovers, as I say he does have a very impressive CV that is growing quite large now as he keeps moving about, but whilst there were never calls for his head, most rovers fans were non plussed by him leaving.

I've no axe to grind with mr blanchard or your club, just thought you might want to know how he fared in his last job.
