melbourne warm up game : Wed Feb 20, 2013 3:57 am
Ok subject for discussion
We could have played storm and both teams were up for it but it never went ahead coz of funding issue
Good or bad for London Broncos?
Would it have been an embarresing spanking or is it a missed marketting opportunity

Yes, they would have beaten us. Marketing? Would have prob done f all as well. As it didn't attract so many more fans after the last time we played a WCC warm up game.

The game ain't happening. End of. Move on. Nothing we can do about it.

In will come our resident, newly qualified marketing person, to enlighten us and coat off the club at the same time...

I don't need to say anything.......the club have already made a statement on their ambitions by declining the offer.

No. It simply shows that the club "geniuses" declined the offer. That in no way has any real link to a clubs' future plans or ambitions, does it. Let's stick to what we know as fact, not what we presume or want to believe.

Fact....when the RFL marketed a warm up game for the WCC visitors, we got close to 7k
Fact...when Harlequins RL marketed a warm up game for the WCC visitors, we got under 4k
Fact...after both these games, no follow up marketing was carried out.
Fact...An opportunity appeared in the shape of an offer for a WCC warm up game in 2013 but was declined on the grounds of costs (as reported in the media).
Fact....TNT, rag that still targets transient barstaff and whom appear on our shirt sleeves have covered the WCC game in their current issue....as has the Australian Times. This, without doubt, would have been the major target audience if the game had been accepted.
Fact...it is widely accepted that there are 300,000 Aussies living in England at any one time with the majority of these in London....3% of these would have been sufficient when combined with our existing 1,300 regulars to achieve a ticketed revenue in excess of 200k GBP.

In my professional opinion, the club have most assuredly shown their hand with regard to the future by turning down this opportunity. They have not been and seem incapapble of becoming prepared to roll up their sleeves and get stuck in. The CEO seems to think that 2k of extra income from 2 course meals is the answer, whilst the Chairman seems hell bent on pursuing his flawed model of spending to the cap and ignoring all other aspects of the Business.

Here's what the publishersof the aussie times say about their readership.....
http://www.australiantimes.co.uk/our-readers
When Australians come to the UK, they:
■Are amongst the highest skilled employees
■Have a high disposable income
■Develop strong business and social networks
■Have an enhanced sense of patriotism
■Become involved in community sports leagues
■Lead incredibly active social lives
■Travel overseas extensively
■Pass on their knowledge and experience to their compatriots
■Become valued contributors to the wider UK community

...patently, these are not the fans we are looking to attract.......we have no need of the social networking and disposable income and we most deffinitely won't to waste time playing to their jingoistic nature when abroad  Twickenham (the bigger stadium) November 2nd 2013.....there'll be a minimum of 30,000 transient bar staff in attendance that day paying on average 3 times what a ticket to the storm would cost.

I wish it was something to do with the tall poppy syndrome, but sadly it's not. Someone was gutless not letting this happen.

it would have taken a lot of hard graft......it's easier to sell 100 2 courselunches and pat yourself on the back!

The club would only have messed up the opportunity so perhaps they realise their limitations.
