Things to do in the region Last weekend: : Mon Mar 25, 2013 11:19 pm
With no premiership or Championship wendyball on offer, London Broncos had an opportunity to showase the sport to some new fans......instead, they managed to attract the third sub 2k gate of the season with a crowd that was beaten by the other activities on offer except for 2nd Tier Union and Blue Square soccer.
Sarries (10,000) Irish(19,523) Wasps (7,194) London Scots (967) AFC Wimpledon (3,902), Barnet (2400) Gillingham :D (10,097) Dartford (1,020) and Luton (5,501)

In respect of London Scottish and Dartford, I am accepting the 1,865 offered as the "attendance" for FC, but a few on here have alluded to it actually being a lot less.....

This weekend, 4 days long...
London Irish and Wasps, Fulham, Chelsea, Arsenal, West Ham, Palace, Brentford, Colchester, Crawley, Barnet, Millwall, Orient and Basingstoke are on offer........thank God London Scottish are away from home :D

How much longer are the RFL going to put up with the complete lack of anything to attract new fans and investors to 1 of their top 14 clubs in their showcase competition....

...and before the usual suspects come along and say "what can we do about it" or "change the record", Since David Hughes assumed 100% control of the club we have lost 111 games out of 170 payed (65%) and lost 57% of our fans. Since his latest CEO hopped on the gravy train, we've lost 42 out of 62 (72%) and seen a 33% drop in fans......the club have been repeatedly warned with regards to the lack of fans or activity to attract them.

Something has to be done or the club will soon start to attract 3 figure averages......as has happened toother SL clubs before they folded.

Selco, answer our prayers!

David Hughes - The Gerald Ratner of Rugby League? Discuss. Or not as the case may be.

Given the latest news I'm starting to think your posts are self fulfilling prophecies.

Either that or Gus is actively trying to wind you up.

I said this would happen as far back as 2003.......the simple facts are you have an offering (games) and a venue able to hold enough fans but not too big(Griffin Park) and youslowly build up your fan base bit by bit......if you ignore this basic plan in sports administration, you end up with less fans and more reliant on hand outs........it isn't soemething I made up...it's how our landlords have built themselves up in the time we've gone backwards....

not sure about winding me up my phone was ringing hot tonight......I'll expect some legal injunction shortly for hurting his feelings.

Re: Things to do in the region Last weekend: : Wed Mar 27, 2013 1:44 am
Perhaps Gutterfax has covered this but I just want to relate a story about what has happened last week, and still is!!
To set the scene, I am working for a blue chip in North Sydney CBD at the moment where in this building we have around 80 people working over 3 floors of a building.
There is a AFL game on between the two Sydney sides at the Olympic Stadium. As you might not be aware Sydney Swan/Giants AFL sides are in a bit of a London Broncos situation in terms of being in a region where the game is’nt really followed/nor cared about. NRL is king in this city and there are 8 NRL side coupled with a ton of feeder clubs which are all well supported (ie Wentworthville, North Sydney, etc etc)
Anyway back to the point. I received the following email last week –

Corporate Affairs has 20 free tickets to attend the GWS Giants v Sydney Swans game this Saturday 30 March 2013.
Please come and visit Louise Groves on Level 9, Corporate Affairs area (just behind the training room) to get your tickets.

First in first served.

Match Details
Who: GWS Giants v Sydney Swans
When: Saturday 30 March 2013
Where: ANZ Stadium, Sydney Olympic Park
Time: 4:40pm (gates open 12:55pm)
Seating: Giants Fans unreserved seating aisles 138-145

When having lunch it appears that all companies in the building had received a visit from the Giants officials/players visiting as well as the surrounding buildings giving 20 free tickets to each.

In summary, it was a talking point with people waiting for coffee (if only for 30 secs), it generated awareness of the match, and the AFL teams in question.

I am no expert, but could the Bronco’s learn anything from this? There is a lot of office buildings, gyms in the area??

And an hour after I wrote the last message look whats come through.... again

27 March 2013
Free tickets to GWS Giants v Sydney Swans game

Due to the overwhelming demand for tickets to attend the GWS Giants v Sydney Swans game this Saturday 30 March 2013, GWS have kindly issued us with some more tickets.
Please email Louise Groves at grovesl@???????.com, before 12pm Thursday, 28 March to secure your tickets.
You will be required to collect them from the Match Day Office at the ground on the day.

Match Details
Who: GWS Giants v Sydney Swans
When: Saturday 30 March 2013
Where: ANZ Stadium, Sydney Olympic Park
Time: 4:40pm (gates open 12:55pm)

Might not have happened in every business they hit, but AFL where hardly anyone in Sydney gives a poop, my company have an 'overwhelming demand' for more tickets. Considering 6 days ago not a person in this office knew that this was happening, let alone wanting to go!! AWARENESS AWARENESS AWARENESS!!!!!

Bronco's marketing team!! Lessons to learn from the Sydney Giants AFL team!!!

Hello someonehasmyname.

AFL doesn't have that bad a following and it is bigger in Sydney than you suggest. As an example the Sydney Swans membership according to them is over 30,000 whilst the Rabbitohs in the NRL is 23579. GWS is at 11,189.
Also the other grades in RL in Sydney aren't as well supported as you suggest. Come to brookvale at 3pm on Sat to watch Manly v Buddlogs (i'll get you a freebie) and see how many are there.
What you have been offered is a great marketing ploy funded by the AFL who have a rather large chest of funds. They are giving away tickets to try and break last year's attendance of 38203. (Which, coincidentally is bigger than any NRL game this year so far).

I do agree with the fact that our marketing has been crud to say the very least. But you may be comparing apples with oranges.

P.S. go to North Sydney Oval in Round 9. Norths v Manly. A good local derby.

AFL on a London RL Board.....?
This thread is about the failings of the CEO and Chairman of London Broncos.....it has little to do with regard to "other sports" apart from pointing put how RL was at the foot of the table.....

If you're going to TROLL, do it elsewhere ......comparing AFL in Sydney to RL in London just smacks of insecurity....the stench of which populates TFC on league unlimited but which has been absent from these parts since we got proper moderators on the NRL section.

Hi Rooster - Long time no see. PM me your number again and lets meet up quickly at the Bears v Manly match, I know you will be busy so I wont keep you too long. The boss (other half) has booked me for Saturday, but if there is anymore freebies to Brookie i'm in!!

Gutters - I am London born and bred and a Bronc's fan which have been for over 10 years. I have only voiced an opinion based on how an experience I am having in regards to a AFL initiative which is being run to raise awareness of an event that I, and others, had no idea was happening. Seemed loosely based on your latest ramble. Apologies if I have upset you in some way, if my post appears that I had trolled then please believe me that it was'nt my intention.

2 right.

I am a realist...I know where most sports stand in their respective markets and comparing AFL to anything like RL in lONDON is like saying Hurling isn't popular in Belfast...until they give away tickets :BEAT: :BEAT: and even then, it's not popular in Belfast :SUBMISSION:

London Broncos had a massive potential audience in 1996.......every year since, that potential audience has gotten smaller.....not due to the failure of the audience to respond, but due to failure to engage that audience...

Usher Esher is the Future.... :D
