There are people on the forum who will defend referees come what may. It now appears that the RFL are not satisfied with the quality of refereeing, as they have now appointed a five man, Independent panel to monitor and raise the standard of refereeing of the game. Seems that the RFL have woken up at last.
Not too impressed with Mr Cobb yesterday, apparently he was the best available for this top of the league came. Oh dear!
Senior ref Richard Silverwood is suspended. Not reffed since Magic weekend. Pending the outcome of an internal investigation.
Our favourite Sam Ansell is also sitting it out too. Another investigation.
Got there hands full there then.
It has to be said. I do hope they can get it sorted. For the good of the game.
All we want is a decent referee. A decent referee. A decent referee.
Interestingly a letter in last weeks Rugby League Express, claimed Leigh and London, were favoured by the refs, to the disadvantage of all other clubs.
Funny I don't see it that way. Is it me?

I don't defend Referees come what may. All I do is point out that it's quite funny most fans and teams only complain about the match officials when they lose! I just throw the question out as a debating point, if a player knocks on in the process of attempting to score a try, and the ref and touch judge genuinely do not see it and a try gets awarded, the officials get lambasted, no one might take the view that the player knew exactly what he has done but will never be honest enough to own up, why is that acceptable?
Not sure what has happened with Richard S am sure it will all come out.
The officials are human, everyone makes mistakes, the official purely make the call on what they see.
Maybe we go down the route of the aussies with 2 refs, things still get missed, players still will argue every decision rather than being honest and saying "yep I dropped that"

It is good that the governing body is doing what it can do improve the game in every area.
Personally I think we rely far to much on video ref, but then again that's driven by back page headlines.

Farcical that Sunday's ref was from Leigh. Put him in an impossible situation. Surely they could have switched another ref!

Why was it farcical? The restriction on home team for ref was lifted many years ago. Are you suggesting that a Leigh ref would be biased towards Leigh? For what purpose? What would that referee have to gain?
I am not saying this happened but actually human nature would probably mean that ref is harder on what would be perceived as his home team to compensate for any suggestion he was favouring that team. In other words when playing against a team that has a ref from that town could actually be beneficial.

We lost, let's accept it was by a better team on the day, the ref just reffed what he saw on the day, and like I say it's funny when we are winning we seem happy with the ref wherever he comes from.

I wasn't happy with Bloem at the Oldham game. Similarly, I don't think Cobb cost us the game against Leigh - he did go some way towards ruining it as a spectacle, though

I thought the ref yesterday was quite good. The Dewsbury fans did not on the whole. Which does back the theory that you are only unhappy with the ref if you lose.
However the RFL, by instigating a panel to raise the standards of refereeing, must think there is a problem. And on that point I must agree.
Might I also add. The touch judges are poor too.
