No one likes to see this happen to any club in any sport, but there are a lot of questions to be asked, the amount due to The Council is reported to be £350K, that can't be defended when local council budgets are so tight and also you have to feel for all the local businesses who are owed money, some small could go out of business themselves.
That seems to be the main reason no group would be willing to take a club on in the position they are in, it is reported they have not trained this week because they can't pay the insurance for players and never mind the wages ongoing. There are a lot of serious questions to be asked, these debts go back. They have had their parachute payment to pay wages owed to players.
There was due to be a meeting/announcement at 12.30pm today but at 4pm nothing yet, Featherstone do not know yet if this weekends game will go ahead.
With the Sky Sports contract drawing closer to opening discussions they are worrying times, I have doubts they will offer what they are currently paying, what will the new owners of Sky's attitude be? I feel we could be drawing closer to semi pro RL, the RFL have been a complete failure, why would anyone even think of appointing as CEO someone who had been part of the problem in the first place, working with Nigel Woods?
