Whilst we're in the Championship it's going to be near impossible to retain players like Butler. He's in the England Knights squad for a reason, and he is in reality a SL-standard player.
We saw from 2019 that getting ourselves in to Super League is not enough; we had a player exodus at the end of that season even if we had stayed up. We need a long term plan with a stable community based Club worthy of Super League status fort the long haul.
I think the frustrating thing is they are signed on a win win basis, I suggest a low salary and if they make it happy days. Sometimes it goes well, Sarginson, McMeeken and LMS, but more often than not ends up like Davis or Bienek or Dixon.
Good luck to the bloke, was good watching him come up through the ranks. Great to see him get a break with a big club hope he gets on ok and gets some regular first team action
I wonder if the club offered him a new long-term contract, but with the proviso that he could spend 2021 on loan to a SL club if we're not promoted this season? Would have given us a chance to retain him should we make SL. Might have been worth a shot.

Sounds very creative, not sure we are that sort of club. Quins did almost that very thing with Joe Marchant spending this season in New Zealand while signing a long term deal at the Stoop.
