York City Knights Squeeze Past the Broncos : Sun Mar 28, 2021 3:19 pm

York City Knights Squeeze Past the Broncos

When the draw for the second round of the Betfred Challenge Cup was made, the potential for a clash between two highly ambitious sides was likely to be the most mouth watering prospect as the possibility of the London Broncos hosting the York City Knights was on the cards. And with York beating Sheffield and London being victorious over Keighley, so it came to pass.

The chance of a big game against one of the top Super League outfits was the prize on offer as the sides met at Rosslyn Park in south west London. The two teams met in round five last year, before the competition was truncated by the pandemic, and it was the visitors York who triumphed by 24-22 on that occasion.

York didn't squeeze past LB they outplayed them. Young guns were good on their senior outings but not good enough or experienced enough.

Think thats a harsh asessment. York on paper should have been much better, think broncos defense was pretty good. 2-8 final score would have been a better indication of the game overall, pretty balanced game, York just finished better.
Lack of leadership probably the real difference.

York seem average given the players they have. They looked overweight and a bit cumbersome. Lower end of play offs for them.

It is funny how on a York forum, they were saying what a good job Kieran Dixon did at fullback. How assured he looked in that position.
Now I like Kieran and was sorry to see him leave. But whenever he played at fullback for us, I was concerned that he was would make an error under the high ball, I was never comfortable when he played there. Far sooner see him on the wing.
Still he is their player, so where they play him is up to them.
I must add, for all the experience that they had on the park yesterday. York were not a good as I expected.

Thing is, people can say "ah, we had a load of youngsters playing" etc but if we do have injuries, that will be the team we put out!!! There is no real cover in the squad. From who was missing, who is due back next week??

If K took the first difficult ball in a game he was usually ok, if he got it wrong his whole game tended to suffer.
He was pretty safe yesterday.

The thing was our kicking game did not put him under pressure.

This club may be working to a three year plan. Hendo when coach set us up on a plan for SL in three years. He left, but Danny took it on with success.
I think they are setting things up again in a similar manner. We may not have strength in depth at this time, but over the year youngsters will improve or leave.
So this year we may scrape into the playoffs, but improvement will come and hopefully Year 3 SL.
