AFC Wimbledon family day : Mon May 02, 2022 2:14 pm
Yesterday, I noted that Wimbledon are holding a family fun day on May 15th 10am to 5pm. No ticket required and free entry.
I understand that it is a Wimbledon event, not a Broncos event.
I wonder if London Broncos will be present ? I suppose that they would possibly not been invited.
However I feel we should have a presence to try and endear our club to Wimbledon's fanbase.

I saw the same poster and thought it was the kind of thing Broncos should be involved with. One problem we have is that we have no product to sell, so to speak as the next home games, other than the Friday night one are in July which is ages away.

Yes, I highlighted this weekends Plough Lane Funday back on 10th March, suggesting the Broncos participated. If they are then they are being very quiet about it.

The Football Stadium is built where the Greyhound/Speedway stadium was situated from the 1920's until it was demolished for a new stadium. Losing those sports (and the football team didn't directly push them out) resulted in some Speedway fans who hate the club and were delighted they were relegated last week.

But ...

On Sunday TheDons Speedway museum will have a presence. Bikes on display. Ex Riders in attendance. Participation from this group in the Abseil.

What about the Broncos. Currently playing at the stadium. Free marketing will will benefit the club which in terms benefits AFC Wimbledon. It's a community event and I see absolutely no reason why the football club wouldn't want them involved. Is there actually anybody at the Broncos available to organise this?

How on earth can a sport in Speedway that will sadly never return to London have a major presence at the event whilst the Broncos appear like they will be totally absent.

At the final Stock Car meeting at Plough Lane (Speedway was last there over 10 years earlier), the Speedway guys put on a great farewell. Riders, bikes, stalls, memorabilia etc and a final few laps of the track (not set-up to race). They did a great job. I suspect their set-up on Suinday will be the best in the stadium. If there were a track they'd ride on it.

Assuming the Broncos aren't represented (hopefully they are) can you imagine surveying the attendees after the event to name three sports linked to the Fun Day. If the answers were Football, Speedway, and Climbing (the new Olympic sport) in lieu of Abseiling, then you really would have to question what the Broncos are up to.

I agree with you entirely. I suspect that London Broncos will not be there.

Or they will be there but have left it so late to announce it or organise anything impressive that they might as well not have been.

Obvious opportunity to use Buck and Dusty but we can't even get that sorted for our games !!

If the Broncos were there we didn't see them. Pretty certain there were thousands of visitors today. The Club Shop had their second biggest sales day in the 20 year history of the club, beaten only by the first home match on their return to Plough Lane.

Five speedway bikes, lots of memorabilia, ex riders dressed in their leathers. When they started up three bikes and revved them for ten minutes, the noise and smell of methanol was awe inspiring. It attracted a large crowd.

This community day will be a success beyond what was expected. More aimed at young kids but a great set-up. Footballs all over the pitch. Penalty shots. Could the Broncos not have done something?

Most of those in the stadium were likely on their first visit. I have no doubt that DLAG and AFC Wimbledon are going to get a massive boost from today, especially through the community goodwill and support that is likely to bring for expanded use of the stadium.

The London Broncos achieved as close to zero as possible from today. I'd even go as far as suggesting it was a step backwards as the London Broncos presence becomes smaller.

The food outlets were taken be surprise. MyPie ran out by 1pm. Chips and Pizza soon after although the latter re-opened after restocking. Only the Ice Cream van survived the day, and they were doing a roaring trade.

Oh and I bought raffle tickets, something I tried and failed to do at the last two Broncos games. The lack of any Broncos "presence" today was no different to any home match this season. Never have I come across a sports team (or business even) so unable to promote themselves to people walking into their stadium, especially on match days.

Today was a open goal in my opinion, and the Broncos didn't even get out of bed let alone take a shot at goal.

The event probably clashed with 1 of the Lobster's hockey matches.

Frankly, that is pathetic from the Broncos. The club is run by people who just don't seem to care.
