Great listen very lucky to have him, he is clearly very frustrated with other clubs in the super league isn't he
He has every right to be, but it's fairly easy to do that looking down from your palace. We've been incredibly lucky to have Lenegan and Danson investing copious amounts of their own money into the club and its facilities.
Rads is absolutely right that the salary cap should increase inline with inflation though, it's scandalous that it hasn't. In 2003 (possible SL's 'peak'?) the cap was £1.8m. With inflation this year's should be £3.2m however it's actually £2.1m - not even close.
The latest TV deal has killed a lot of growth for RL in this country IMO as most clubs just don't have the free cash to spend on things like a Las Vegas trip or a £350k a year player. We need to open the sport up to outside investment by relaxing the salary cap, creating a player market and putting some people with actual ambition in The RFL. The marquee player rule is great but we cannot do nothing else, other than light-up posts, fireworks and live bands and expect the sport to grow.
Dare I say it that the sport also needs a couple of rule changes as well to make it more exciting. We aren't going to win new fans with a 1-0 game where both teams defended well and played 5 drives and a kick rugby. I actually like RU's bonus point method which encourages actually scoring tries but maybe there's something else that's better.
