I don't like to see blatant 'cheating' rewarded either, but all players cheat at some point in most games in some way or other. The whole PTB nowadays at every tackle is all about holding the attacking player until the very last second before the ref will penalise you. That for some people is not in the spirit of the game.

I do hope when people calm down they think again about being glad McGuire is injured. Never mind the RL side of things, that's just a sad way to think.

The game can not be played with that attitude and survive IMO. Moments likes Saints "Wide to West" finish would never happen. We won a game v Bradford a few years ago with a similar break down the left wing from Renouf for Radlinski to score. Were Bradford slagged off for NOT committing a professional foul to win the match? Did it even enter anyone's head that they should have done so?

People really do need to get grip of that they are suggesting here is an acceptable way to play the game.

What's the weather like up there on your horse?

I find all this cheating/penalty talk incredulous as a passive observer. Fact is every team concedes penalties in every game, indeed Joel Tomkins is the most penalised man in SL. Where are the army of troops demanding his removal from the green rectangle for not abiding by the Wigan moral code?

Wigan didn't lose the game because of a 2 second incident. No more than Leeds won it because of a penality given to them for Tomkins kicking out in the tackle. Would they have been right to complain if they lost and he hadn't been sin binned at the least; which the offence warranted?

Again, the piousness on here is sickening. I thought Wigan fans had a little more decorum than is being displayed. Obviously not. In saying that, let's not detract from a superb game, played at an incredible speed in a pretty good spirit. Superb advert for the sport which shouldn't be derailed by one-eyed overly emotional tirades from up in the clouds.

Well done to both sides

Alibert was not giving anything please watch the entire incident. Had the perfect view of him and he was awarding a scrum to Leeds its only when the Touch Judge runs on he then gives the penalty. Never been one for blaming a ref for a defeat, but this guy was a joke. How could he put Buderus on report when hes standing next to him and watching the tackle. 10 min in the bin minimum.

Seen some bad refs in my time but this guy was out of his depth by a long way.

You missed out Tomkins kick which should have been a red card!

You missed out the spear tackle, which arguably could also have been a red.

The only clanger Alibert dropped was awarding the penalty in the first place.

I agree with the posters who think that Mc Guires injury is some kind of poetic justice, i don't like to see anyone injured but the fact it was caused when he commited a foul/offence makes me think 'serves him right' i hope his season is over. it may make him think twice in future..look at it this way, if a criminal gets injured/hurt commiting a crime then everyone here would be saying 'serves him right'. :SHOOT:

And you seriously think for one second that your players would not have done exactly the same given the circumstances in hand??

As for agreeing with people wishing a player a serious injury you are a disgrace :NAUGHTY:

As much as I dislike certain players in RL as I am sure we all do it is simply wrong to wish injury upon anyone who plays the game.

Oh and you'll also be pleased to know it looks like the injury is simply a sprain and he should be ok................feel free not to cheer him in the tri nations tho

Dave o thats a lovely little story I almost had a tear in my eye and then I smelt some coffee and remembered you had Ellery Hanley play for you for all those years and despite being the greatest British player of all time was a cheating niggling swine that would have tackled his own mother high and Late if it meant getting an advantage.....

I remember the Wide to West try but I also remember Chris Joynts voluntary tackle too. surely thats cheating and not an acceptable way to play the game....??

I think your forgetting things just to make your argument stand up and it doesnt.....

I'd rather see mcguires Illegal tackle and for it to correctly go punished, than see someone take kicks at a bloke on the ground and for that to not get punished correctly.

wouldnt you?

What are you on about? McGuire wasn't penalised for holding back, Tomkins was penalised for the kick and it ultimately cost us the game.

Did anyone seriously ever believe that he really was injured?
This subject is getting very old & boring now.
For me that incident was very clear - Had Danny McCheat not intervened, we would have been under the sticks for 6-points.
Simples!
However.................I wouldnt deny for one second that what he did would most likely have been replicated by any other player in that same situation.
Won the Whino's a week off, and a home tie in the Semi's. End of.
I didnt see how he could have injured himself, and Uncle Festers comments on Sky later on were bang out of order.
I personally think Danny-Boy played the 'soccer' card.
I've cheated, and now i'll roll-over and play dead like i'm the victim.
He must have known that incident would warrant a straight red card, had it been seen by the officials (which it wasnt).
His actions won the Whino's the match, took him out of a heated situation (by feigning injury), and also saved him from a potential ban in the play-off's.
Not nice -- But very, very savvy.
Something our own players (JT in particular) clearly lack.
I dont like Danny Maguire -- As other fans dont like our own Sam T.
But he did what he had to do, and got away with it.
Wish we could all just move on now..........
