I find it funny how not long ago most posters on here were calling him a beast and wanted him in the side, now most have gone full circle and have written him off yet I bet most have barely seen him enough to make any judgement.
I personally don’t think he will make it at Wigan and have said that for years and I don’t think being so much bigger than the rest of the juniors will help you in the long run. He does however have great hands and is still only 19 so I’m not writing him off yet.

I just don't get this Watkins thing. If he signed a three year deal with Leeds then it is obviously binding on both sides. All Watkins has to do is say "I'm staying" and there's not too much Leeds can do about it without it costing them a fortune.
If he does leave will Leeds want a transfer fee?

You are right although I do personally think clubs should be allowed to come to agreements with players releases and it not count on the cap.

Since they want him off the cap I can't see them asking for a fee. Presumably Watkins wants to maintain his income level and why Leeds decided to offer him a contract they now don't want to afford is rather dubious. I mean if they had not offered him a contract of that level maybe he'd have gone elsewhere so it's a bit naughty to entice a player to stay on a deal you then don't want to honour. Not unlike what Wigan did with Sam T.

I’d say completely different to the Tomkins situation. His contract was coming to an end and he was offered the 10th highest contract in the club’s history, having already 2 of the other 9.
He hadn’t been good value for money for at least 2 of those seasons in his last contract due to injuries and the club were right not pay him more than they thought he was worth.
Watkins is 1 year into a 3 year deal.

I always think that’s a tell tale sign of a poor culture at a club, when players play out of their skin for a new deal then drop away once it’s signed. It used to happen all the time pre Maguire then from 2010 up until about a couple of seasons back we saw an end to it but it’s creeping back in.

Adrian Lam himself did the same when he played for us, was outstanding in the last year of his contract and got a new one and was average for the following season.

But its just spin,a pay cut is just that a pay cut no matter how big the offer is, unless it beats his current deal its a pay cut.as for Watkins it does make you wonder why they are trying to get rid of a player who is, as you say only just into a new deal.

Because he is crocked and costing too much. Nevertheless, Leeds will have to pay him some form of compensation which will count against their salary cap. The same happened to us with Matty Smith. It must be a sizeable pay off to get him to walk otherwise he could have stayed and taken his salary for two more years. Maybe it is a payment in to his pension pot.

That’s not spin. Tomkin’s contract had finished. There was a 1 year option in the clubs favour they chose not to exercise which is their right. Instead he was offered a 3 year deal which he rejected.
