Ok not so eloquently put Grimmy but you get the point. Do you think Wigan are blowing teams away? Who would you say was a fantastic result against? Wigan's biggest test so far was Brisbane and they failed miserably.
I read a heck of a lot of neutrals that tipped Hull to beat us last week and after a shakey start they couldn't handle us. Tonight is of course our toughest test but I'm sure the players are taking it more serious that some of the dismissive fans here.

A couple of weeks ago I'd have been more worried, but bar a ten minute lapse we really dominated Hull FC, and we looked better again against Leeds, and could have put 50 past them if Williams had played or a few passes had stuck. We have won our last 25 SL games at the DW, and since you returned to SL our record against you at the DW is:
Won 20-10
Won 48-04
Won 48-04 (again)
Won 62-04
Won 54-12
I know the 'done thing' is to say it'll be a tough one with no more than a score in it so I don't look daft if we lose but i think the above is fair reason for me to be confident. I reckon we look more likely to step up that extra gear and blow you away, or at worst grind out the win, than for you to finally end our SL home run. Obviously the players won't be as relaxed as me and will be treating this as one they will need to play at their best to win. FWIW if this was an away game I'd be predicting a win by no more than 6.

| I am in the same boat as Grimmy pretty much. Except that if we don't win I won't feel stupid as it's just a prediction and nobody can be certain what will happen out there on the pitch tonight. But I'm not that worried that out home winning streak will be ended tonight.
As I said, if you look back to 2014 Widnes had a similar start to that season too, and fell off in the end, I am predicting something similar this year, unless they can be extremely lucky and remain injury free. They have a good team, and I think it will be a good game tonight, but if Wigan defend like they have been doing then I feel confident.

| Quote Grimmy="Grimmy"I'm feeling very confident about this one. Widnes are artificially top by virtue of playing an extra game and not having played any of the form sides yet (except Salford, who beat them). They're going well but I can't see them having enough to break our home record, particularly as we usually spank them at the DW. Our attack looked pretty threatening on Friday too. I'll go 38-10'"
I thought our defence last week was very aggressive and looked really solid. Thought our attack quite frankly in the first half was pretty awful but improved a bit in the second half.
Just don't see 28 points between the teams.
If Widnes can defend their line well I'd give them a decent chance tonight unless we improve our passing game which has been pedestrian, telegraphed with zero dummy runners.
I would turn your argument around and say that we haven't played anybody yet that can actually attack at pace with perhaps the exception of Salford who could have nicked it near the end.
We have zero pace so will be interesting to see how we try and combat the Widnes attack particularly on a good dry surface. Looking forward to it.

Not sure I'd agree with you regarding zero pace, Manfredi and Charnley both made good breaks last week, not many can catch Gildart, Gelling, Sarginson or Williams, Bateman and Farrell and rapid for second rowers. Flower is very mobile for a prop. That's nearly half the 17 I'd class as amongst the fastest in SL in their position.

Gelling and Sarginson????? Don't think either of them have scored tries from any distance while they have been here.
Charnley was fast but his take on Fatty Arbuckle (one for grey heads or slap heads) has slowed him down to a fast trot.
Williams I give you but doesn't use it enough for me.
Manfredi great close to the line but not one for length of the field efforts. A good effort last week but Hardaker still got back to catch him last week despite flapping and letting Manfredi to get past him.
Bateman and Farrell are useful but wouldn't put pace as their main attributes.
Let's see how quick they are tonight when a team lets the ball do the running.

| Silverwood's performance will be crucial. The Widnes fans are also critical of him, but several times last season and also this he has not done Wigan any favours - most noticeably, though, when he has been VR. Grand Final (with Bentham) ignoring McGuire's blatant knock on which led to a try and Farrell's disallowed try last week.
It is a fascinating contest - if Wigan's defence is as ruthless as last week, they should win comfortably. If the forwards do not get on top, Kevin Brown, Joe Mellor and Hanbury could wreak havoc and Widnes could have a field day.
Quietly confident the Wigan forwards will prevail and the outside backs will be as effective as they were against Leeds.

Manfredi's length of the field effort was hardly a clear run to the line, he brushed off 4 or 5 tackles before Hardaker just about got to him. I bet there aren't too many quicker over 100m

te
You are not reading it right. But maybe I phrased it badly.
I think if Widnes are lucky on the injury front (don't get many injuries to key players) then they have a chance of finishing between 4th and 8th. If they are unlucky and Brown, Mellor or one of the other key playmakers gets an injury then I think Widnes would struggle to get into the top 8 again. Essentially, I do believe Widnes have a very good 19/20 players, but after that, their squad looks thin in comparison to Leeds, Wigan, Warrington etc who can deal with quite a few injuries and simply bring people in who do the job.
For example, imagine the team Widnes would put out if they had their first choice fullback, stand-off, hooker and 3 back row forwards out injured. That would be like losing Hanbury, Brown, White, Houston, Cahill and Leuluai for example.

Too much weights and helping out the god awful "middles" means fast lean wingers are of a different world let alone era.
I always ask the same question "what the hell would SW do with Offiah?" He couldn't defend particularly well and couldn't drive out of defence but he did score with alarming regulars from all ranges. SW would sooner have Justin Carney a wham beam thank you ma'am in more ways than one.
Finesse is a forgotten word in RL and in SW's world it isn't in the dictionary of playing "tough" rugby.

I haven't watched the game again but my recollection at the game was that Hardaker missed him first time but got back at the second attempt. If I'm wrong I stand corrected.
I like Manfredi but I would not class him as pacey a la Joe Burgess or Charnley before he found Twitter

| Manfredi is deceptively quick with his long legs ( Ã la Pat Richards but faster). I have watched back the run which led to the Bateman try and between just after the Wigan 20 metre line and half way he really motors once he has broken through a few tackles. He then slows down as the cover defence comes across. Allied to his huge strength he is really turning into a top winger.
Sarginson (for all his faults) was motoring as well and was at Manfredi's side by the half way line (indeed, Manfredi might well have passed inside to him). All this bodes very well for the coming months as the pitches firm up. If Charnley consistently maintains the pace and enthusiasm he did against Leeds, Wigan will have a back 3 to rank against any in Super League. And Sam is yet to return....
I wonder whether SW would ever countenance playing Sam at 6 (and dare I say it, play George at 7 and Smith as bench 9) or is it nailed on that Sam will return as full back?

How do you work that one out. How many Offiah type wingers are playing in the game today? Are all the coaches wrong or just Wane?
Didn't Wane select Joe Burgess as his first choice winger last season, and he was more about pace than power!!

| It should be very interesting game tonight. It's fair to say we haven't been in sparkling form however the commitment, will to win and defence has been fantastic. I think it's only a matter of time before we blow someone away. That said I think last week will have taken a bit out of us as that was a huge effort to dominate Leeds like we did. The league table doesn't lie. Widnes have started the season very well and scored a lot of points in the process. They also don't have the injuries that we do. All things considered it could go either way tonight.

| Well being totally honest I really dislike Wigan
BUT
I have to admire the fact that you're getting results and clearly aren't near your best form - with many top players to come back from injury.
The systems and structures in place are so well drilled that even if you don't play well - or you've guys missing - you can still win.
That's impressive, but also (for me) boring.
The match against Leeds was predictable and i didn't expect any other result.
Fair play to your guys - they are very athletic and physical.
I hate the way you've taken tacking - 3rd man in around the knees - but I fully expect to get people disagreeing with me and a fair bit of abuse. No problem.
Tonight I expect you to win, but will be supporting Widnes.
Your defence and their attack will nullify each other.
Your attack will overcome their defence.
Looking forward to it even so.

What WOULD SW do with Offiah? My answer is nothing. He would never sign him in a month of Sunday's.
My argument is even if there was an Offiah knocking about SW wouldn't play him.
