I’d like us to put a cheeky offer in for Watkins. He’s still better than what we’ve got on the right.

For a sensible price given his injuries I don’t see the harm in a take it or leave it offer without getting into a bidding war with another club.

It was spin though..being offered the third biggest contract in the history of the club,I presume he was on I’d assume the biggest contract the club had offered at that time,they asked him to take a pay cut and tried to spin it,simple as that.

Don’t get me wrong at that time,what was it April last year I wouldn’t have offered him a huge deal either,it’s just that he went on to have a decent season after he’d joined Catalan.

Go all out for Watkins. A quality centre is available, additionally he has great experience and leadership qualities.
We need all of the above.

I’d go with that. He’s not worth throwing big money at but there would be no harm offering him a similar deal to somebody like Sarginson and seeing where his head is at.

He was Out of contract. If you can’t understand that I give up.

As good as he is, I simply can't see Watkins being value for money. We've got the same problems as Leeds when it comes to planning fairly big changes to the squad over the next couple of years whilst staying salary cap compliant, big changes needed in the pack and at half back. Watkins' wages, even when fit and on form, gives us much less wiggle room.

Mixed feelings on whether we would want to roll the dice with Watkins. He's in a player in a position we need to strengthen and has been an outstanding player in the past. Sadly after his injury he's looked a shadow of his former self.

Would a move and/or a full preseason help him to get back to what he was? Or would we end up stuck with a player with his best days well behind him on an expensive contract?

The thing is that players like Watkins come available once in a blue moon these days.

It's highly possible that his poor form is a symptom of the general malaise at Leeds. I know that things are not much better at Wigan at present, but a change of scene can often work wonders for a player. I'd sign him in a heartbeat, especially as that right centre position is our only real weak spot in the 3/4, and make the contract reflect any concerns re. his fitness, attitude etc.

The problem would be, of course, if he still thinks he's worth massive money. He isn't at the mo, and I don't think Wigan could afford that anyway.
