Keeping within the salary cap will be one thing but what signing this lot will do to the Wigan RL balance sheet will be something else.
There is only one person funding this and that's IL.
That should put to bed the "tight arde" "deep pockets short arms" nonsense, but it won't. The man's put £ms into the club getting us to finals most years and winning plenty trophies.
If IL was putting a market down as to his future intentions for the club signing Burgess and Hastings plus will do it.
The people who make the "tight" comments are the same type of people who argue "Brexit will stop Muslims coming to this country". They grab two disparate ends of an argument and make an imaginary constant thread. There's no point in hoping for a rational argument from them. It will never happen.
As for the Burgess signing, should it come off, it's arguable that it would make us the best pack in the comp. That's a big claim for 1 addition, I know, but who can better, say, Burgess and Flower starting with Bullock and Clarke from the bench and a back row of Farrell, Greenwood and O'loughlin with Smithies off the bench? That's before we get to the genuine 1st team quality depth that we already know no one can match.
It's not over the line yet but with Hastings already on board and strong rumours about French, this could be the start of something big.
