Time for leadership from within the club. If there is nothing in this rumour then a quick video from Aus is all that is required. If true then get top dollar for his contract. We won't be paying him if he simply refuses to turn up so it is in everyone's interest to get sorted out. There are few good quality halves out there and we could be looking for another stopgap to bring Smith through. It would be a shame when the quality of Sezer and Malone were available able to end up with no idea he in that controlling role. Having said that we have had younger starting halves than Smith Who have done ok.

Cupboard looks bare if he doesn’t come in regards replacements. They’ve ready been signed up elsewhere. Even if we paid a fee for somebody, I’m not sure there’s any realistic options in superleague you’d want to pay for. Only player I could think of would be Jake Connor with the promise of playing permanently in the halves.

It could well be a silver lining if he doesn’t come. It looks all doom and gloom now but could we put in Harry Smith? I appreciate he’s still young and raw, doesn’t have much (that’s being generous) SL experience but could he step in where Hastings would go? It’s feasible and not beyond reproach and would certainly be a cheaper and hopefully in the long term, a shrewd move. It would keep free a marquee spot too

If it is then that all but confirms the Hastings rumour as it leaves Tommy and French in the halves with Dwyer interchanging hooker with Powell.

It would have to be a big fee to land Connor.If reports were correct Hull turned down £500k from Leeds?

Absolutely and it’s unlikely in the extreme. Pretty much just throwing the name of the only player I’d consider spending a fee on. The only way it would be a realistic move would be if his relationship with Redford or any of the senior players had broken down and that price had dropped.

This is always going to be more possible due to his father coaching the club. I don't know what Lachlan's chances are at playing for the Roosters. I think Lachlan was discussed last season, by all accounts I think Roosters would only agree to a loan deal, with a 'instant recall' in play, meaning if they're hit with an injury crisis Lachlan would be on a plane and back in the tri colours before we could blink. Don't think Wigan were too keen on that deal; and rightly so.

Connor is good, but I think we need a playmaker, a controlling half if we're looking to play two halves together with French running off a 7. I don't think he's skill set would fill the requirements we need.

He has returned to pre season training 3 weeks before he was due to (albeit to start his rehab, testing etc.) Hopefully it is a change in attitude, or doesn't want to be on the end of a Manu M'au stare
