Abuse is abuse. Try and dress it up in other clothes but it remains the same, it has the same effect. Physically or mentally is degrading and amongst one of the worst things to happen to a person. I know, I’ve seen it and dealt with it too many times to count.

If he is guilty he will be dealt with accordingly and purely going off the gravitas of his partners alleged injuries he may well be looking at a jail term.

Warrington have done the right thing in temporarily standing him down and letting the Police investigation run its course. I think a DV round would be beneficial but not hastily arranged off the back of this. It needs to be thought through thoroughly, carefully and with the utmost care if it is to have any effect whatsoever. You can’t just create this round on a whim as it looks like a cheap marketing ploy.

I think clubs need to be very wary of this kind of thing.

A Pride Day is different as that is specifically designed to let a certain section of society know they are welcome in RL who may previously have thought that they weren't.

But a 'domestic abuse awareness day' could either be seen as virtue signalling (which would be right in many cases, as so many past players have been guilty of this) or plain old cynical marketing. I remember a certain newspaper once attracting some serious bad publicity for trying to sell advertising space on the back of a 'do you know where your child is?' article not long after an infamous child-murder. To say they were pilloried would be an understatement.

Wigan are lining up a mid-season signing from overseas.

The Warriors are one of just a handful of clubs that currently have unallocated quota spots and League Express understands the club plans to fill them as the season develops.
Adrian Lam and Kris Radlinski are actively on the lookout for potential NRL pickups, with a number of players likely to enter the market once the season starts next month.

Wigan use fewer quota spots than anyone in Super League. As it stands, they are in position to sign two full overseas players as well as an addition non-federation trained player on top of that.

While it’s unlikely they’ll fill their entire quota, it’s highly likely they’ll use it in some regard, though that could see players leave the club too.

It’s believed that Morgan Escaré has attracted interest from clubs, with the Frenchman seemingly not in Lam’s plans after having limited game time since his arrival at the DW Stadium last year.

Meanwhile, Catalans Dragons are thought to be keen on signing Wales forward Ben Flower, who is off-contract at the end of the season and appears to be approaching the end of his time at the club.

Flower hasn’t featured this season due to injury but lost his number 10 shirt to George Burgess ahead of the current campaign.

It’s believed that Wigan would be open to the 32-year-old leaving the club before the end of the current campaign, but are reluctant to do so at the minute due to concerns over Burgess’ hip injury. Should the Warriors identify a prop from Down Under, it’s likely that Flower would head to the Dragons as a result.

Whatever the club do will sadly be seen by some as pandering to the latest fad and some will suggest that the club attaching itself to pride was just opportunistic and just as likely to alienate. It is like all those companies that Greenwash their products without intending to change. That does not mean that we should ignore valid issues. I would like to see clubs making more of their community links and issues that have specifically affected each club. Mental health immediately springs to mind.crusaders
One of the issues often raised on this site is the feeling of a growing distance between club and supporters. Unless they have a truly international reach sports clubs just cannot afford to push away prospective supporters. Becoming part of awareness campaigns can bring people in if done well as long as we remember that the club is there to play rugby and not to tell us what to think. They are a lot of worthy causes that I ignore because they do not affect me. The risk is the club being pilloried for not jumping on the next bandwagon if we come to expect them to be social crusaders.

Have there been any suggestions as to who might be avaliable? I see that Adam Blair is talking about retirement next season could he be persuaded to sign? If this appears in the papers you will know that they really do trawl the boards for stories.

That would be a waste of a quota spot IMO. He’s a shadow of his former self and whilst an upgrade on Clubb he isn’t what we should be targeting.
