The prop situation will rely on George Burgess IMO and the impact he can have. If it’s a really positive one we may be ok but I’d still want one player minimum in the prop/loose forward area if we’re dating Flower, Clubb and Lockers leaves.
I don’t know when this deadline on Hastings is but Wigan need to be looking at options now in case he does head home. I’m confident Harry Smith will be ready for a starting berth next year but if Hastings followed Tommy out the door, then they’d both need replacing. Maybe a marquee half and somebody who can offer a bit of impact out of dummy half. I read on the other board that Shorrocks is definitely leaving as well, so we’d be down to just Smith, Powell and Bourouh. Lam said there’s a future here for Josh Woods, so he may take Shorrocks current role.
You’d like to think we’ve drawn up a list as a contingency for replacing Hastings. I’d hope it would be marquee type money for a top class half.
I take your point about Burgess and the loss of him, Flower, Clubby and Lockers would leave an almighty hole but I do wonder whether any more of our youngsters could step up like Bryne, Havard, Partington and Smithies have and be the replacements. That being said we do need experience in the pack. It’s a delicate balancing act
