No I wouldn't. He retired because he felt that he could no longer perform to his standards DUE TO INJURY. If he was coming back at his best, do you not think an NRL side would have wanted him?

IF you get him fit and he is the player he was in the NRL then it's a great signing. If not, then it's another waste of money to add to your long list.

Great signing on paper, HUGE risk on the field.

Myself and any other sane wire fan will not be expecting him to be the player he was in his pomp but he won’t need to be in this competition just some way near it and I’m sure Matty Ashton will learn a thing or two from him which can only be valuable for us. It’s got much needed talk on the sport when wire saints and Wigan are fending off an assault from the Yorkshire mafia to knock the salary cap down and send the sport back several steps.

It's a great signing for the game of Rugby League. He'll put bums on seats,no he won't be the player he once was but fans will want to go and see him, it creates interest in our game.

Decent signing as far as selling tickets is concerned. For the sake of SL I hope he performs for wife.

So, is crock-Widdop retiring or has Blake Austin signed for an NRL return?

Not a marquee according to our Chief exec and his salary will reflect the current climate... he’s coming over to fulfil his childhood dream of playing in the primrose and blue

The fact they are saying he isn’t marquee is an absolute joke but at the end of the day it is what it is.

We all know he won’t be the player he was but that’s hardly a surprise as he in his prime one one if the best I’ve ever seen.

I was gutted when he retired. Way too soon and whilst I think injuries no doubt contributed I think his mental state that was the deciding factor.

It is a great signing for the league and Wire and I will certainly go see him at every opportunity I can when Wire are in Yorkshire and it doesn’t clash with a Wigan or Trinity game.

Very exciting.

Can’t wait till we announce Sam Burgess and Jamal Idris on 1 year trialist contracts now.

On paper, much like Sonny. bill its an exciting signing so lets give credit to wire for giving it a whirl if nothing else, if he gets somewhere near his best form its good business.
